"Who's you favourite teacher?"

"What's your favourite sublect?"

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"Are you being a good girl for mommy?"

Oh the tediousity.

I have grand plans for quirky questioning to go alongside my bristly chin when I'm aged.

A great aunt of mine used to read palms, and told me I would have two men in my life, one dark, one fair, and that she 'saw' me in the shadow of a vast building.

hardhatdonned · 30/03/2011 21:23

My mum was 7 when she became a great aunt so i would imagine her line of conversation was always a bit different than most great aunts!! :)

My Great Aunt (aged 94) was quizzing DD (13)

Have you read Sons and Lovers?

No

Why on earth not? What are they teaching you at that expensive school?

Erm

Well Hardy then. Come along gel, you must have read some Hardy

'Fraid not

Goodness. The level of literacy in today's children is appalling. Well what have you read then, gel?

Well we're reading Animal Farm at school and I'm reading Jodie Picoult at home

I'm not talking about modern rubbish. Orwell was a journalist. Heaven knows what Picoult is. I want to know about your literary tastes, gel.

Valpollicella · 30/03/2011 22:08

I think I will combine the arcane with my Italian madness for when I a great aunt.

'What's you're favorite board game dear?'

Followed by

'Men. Hope the ones in your life aren't being pricks my love.'

'Well that'll be new blood in the family!!'
She was 100 last week Grin Grin

Am loving Quattro's great aunt. Grin My sole remaining one is 94, and she is far more likely to ask detailed questions about holiday plans, music, recent nights out and have an enthusiastic discussion with DH about cooking, before we all head off for a pub lunch. In fact, we usually have trouble getting a word in edgeways.

I was a great aunt by the time I was 18.

I am a fantastic aunt now!

My great Aunt will live forever. Seriously, we have been bribed to be nice to her for at least 20 years now on the promise of 'she hasn't got long left' and now she's a year off 100 and as evil as ever...

Have you ever watched The Dark Crystal? Great Aunt Doris is what they based the Skeksis on. She grasps our hands with her bony beringed talons, and peers at us through her milky, beady, evil eyes. Once when I was 12 I wore a red C&A dress - long sleeves, ankle length - my favourite dress. She said 'oh no, dear, you can't wear that in public, you look like a harlot'. She alays claimed to be practically blind, but could spot the last slice of cake from across the room. She always used to spend ages rummaging in her handbag for pocket money, then pull out a tenner and ask us (still grasping our wrists an getting her spittle and biscuit crumbs all over our faces) 'now, what is 10 pounds divided by three?'

Sorry if I sound negative, but I think I would rather die before becoming a great aunt, if I have to turn into her...
