About giving a baby/toddler tea?

I have heard a few people mention it over the last few months at baby groups etc and I'm a bit miffed?

Why would you give a baby/toddler tea? I'm talking anything between 10 months to under 2yrs in particular. Even if it is decaf, why?

I just can't think of a reason, apart from a selfish one, such as maybe you want them to have some with you cause you're having one. Even in cold weather, what is wrong with warm milk or some sugar free Horlicks etc if you really must.

I just don't get it, or AIBU and you're about to flame me and my 4yr old and 18month old are "missing out"

So, although DD is familiar with green and peppermint tea, and I've never given her regular tea, with all the tea talk on this thread I decided to have one while baking some cookies with DD and she asked for some so I gave her a wee bit of milky tea and she loved it!

All my kids have loved 'titty tea'[very milky tea!!]

I like the fact that tea and wine are mummy's drinks and not for dd - dd is fine about that. I let her try a fizzy drink when she was young but, as predicted, she hated it and hasn't shown interest since.

I don't agree with children having tea. No need for it.

You think its because of selfish reasons?
Because they want their children to drink tea with them.

Are you confusing tea with crack?

Hmmm, probably a bit out of step with the majority here. My 6mo likes tea. She drinks a bit out of my mug when it has cooled down enough. She positively clamours for it when she sees me drinking it. I have switched to decaf for her, though if we are out she sometimes has a bit of my caffinated tea. I don't have sugar, so that isn't why she likes it. I have it quite weak. I wouldn't dream of giving her juice or squash. I don't put it in a bottle for her. And I am definitely not common - I drink Waitrose decaf Wink.
