Okay... so I'm struggling to understand those that are excited about this forthcoming event, or even why it warrants a public holiday. Makes me think of those people that are in crippling debt, but on the face of it look like they're minted, IYSWIM. Anyway, whilst I struggle to understand it, I can accept it.

What I cannot accept, and this is my AIBU, is why on earth the school are planning two days of Wedding 'parties'. One of which, parents and siblings are to attend, dressed as wedding guests. £3 to attend and we must bring food. "Children and guests are to wear attire as if they are attending a wedding"

AIBU to think this takes the fucking piss?!

MardyBra - thats exactly what I meant in my OP. Small business' will suffer from this bank holiday, it's not as if they are having a hard time anyway, and we're all supposed to get excited and wave a plastic flag

forwant - They've specified 'clothes that would be worn to a wedding'. I think Mum's are expected to wear hats.

I might turn up in my wedding dress.

yanbu but I wouldn't buy anything special tbh . School trousers or chinos and a smart shirt/t shirt for boys, summery dress or tops/leggings for girls. Can you wear a straw or smart hat (charity shop or a high street retailer like dp) ? At least the Diamond Jubilee will fall in half term next year.

I suppose LIZS, but it's quite a 'weathly' school, and the parents can be fairly competitive. I can imagine it now....
