To think that i should get a parking permit?

I work as an itu nurse in a major teaching hospital, i work 12 hour shifts days and nights. I have always had a general pass that allows me to pay a staff rate and park in shitty car parks away from the main entrance.
However this year i have been issued an out of hours only so i cannot park in the grounds when working days.

There are no direct bus routes from my house, i have appealed sayng that i would need to get up at approx 04.30am to take the dcs to childcare, toget back home for 06.00 to get bus at 06.15, then change buses at approx 06.30 to get to work for 7am.
I can do the same coming home or get a direct service which only runs hourly, so if i miss the 8pm i have to wait until 9pm, also only stops a 20 min walk away from my house.

So potentially my day could start at 04.30 and finish at approx 9pm depending on which bus i catch.

So AIBU to expect a parking permit? I live 4 miles away.
Administrative workers working 9-5pm who live 6 miles away will get one.
Apparently rhe cut off is 6 miles regardless of your job or hours you work!

I have spoken to my RCN rep and she is checking on this, where lse do i go?

if you work 4 miles away why does it take you 2 hours there and two hours back? Have i missed something. Could you get a scooter

Ok get up at 04.30 get ready and get kids ready approx one hour. Leave house at 05.30, take kids to inlaws 10 mins each way, back home, walk to bus stop approx 10 mins to catch 06.15 bus, change buses at 06.35 then get to work at 06.50.
And btw i work for the NHS if you think i can afford to run a car and a scooter you are sadly mistaken, also im presuming id still need a space for a scooter

We could all sit here thinking of various complicated 'solutions', but surely the problem is you are totally undervalued in being expected to go through all this saga just to get to work. Mind you, it's not like you're doing anything important, and it was completely irresponsible of you to have children. Just as well you get the compensation of such a colossal salary.....
Think the indirect discrimination thing might work. Suggest union gets legal advice. Good luck!

It's beyond a joke how they treat NHS workers these days. Yes, I bet several 'important execs' will have own parking spaces!

As for walking or cycling... usually I love running so I would say I am far from lazy but after a long shift on a ward on your feet all day when it's after 9pm at night you just want to sit down either on the bus or in your car. Especially when you know that you'll be back at work before the sun comes up!

Good luck with getting a pass, even a nominal fee per day would be better than full rates. I worked at a unit where it was 50p per day (about 12yrs ago!) if you didn't have staff pass but it was still better than the alternative.

Id still pay a fee even with a permit, its £1.05 for 13 hours, which is better than £2.40 for every 2 hours.
Think my best option is to go for the cross site working argument
