DS2 (11) has several, and about 1000 (it seems) foam bullets . No objection on principle, but the foam bullets get everywhere and I have said he can't buy any more plastic tat till we reduce the plastic tat glut we already have in th house. He says this additonal plastic tat is what he wants to spend his own hard earned moeny on. And he does earn it, does not get set pocket money - it is all earned.
AIBU not to let hime spend his moeny on what he want s to spend it on. Am genuinedly struggling with his and wuld appreciate views. Plase don't sidetrackonto the morality of toy guns, its the money thing I am pondering....

Should have said - the one he wants it £40 which seems extortionate...

oh i feel your pain, i have bloody nerf bullets everwhere, I sent ds2 upstairs to get ready fro school this morning only to hear the whoosh whhoosh of the spinning gun barrel followed by the thud thud thud x 100 of the flippin bullets.

WHoever invented nerf guns should be shot!

Oh & ds1 bought his latest plastic nerf tat with his pocket money..... unless its unsafe, not age appropriate or totally aginst house rules its ahrd to say no!

anonandlikeit · 29/03/2011 19:50

I did buy them the nef game for the Wii, you can use it without bullets, of course they#ve never used it. Apparently its not as much fun as firing real bullets

Hassled · 29/03/2011 19:53

He's 11, he's earned the money - let him buy the Nerf. Before you know it he'll be dressed entirely in black, holed up in his room and refusing to crack a smile. I think they're great - DS3 and I have shoot-outs.

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 29/03/2011 19:56

his money his choice . sorry but he did earn it so in theory he will take care of it .

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 29/03/2011 20:03

Let him spend his money as he chooses, but bin any bullets left lying around. (Warn him first...)

AgentZigzag · 29/03/2011 20:06

Ooops - plastic tat up the hoover pipe Grin

'I don't know where the crappy polly pocket handbag is DD1'

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 30/03/2011 10:29

many thanks -yes it is his moeny and so we have today said he can, but any bullets still downstairs when he has gone to bed go in to a ransom area - and yes, the day will be here soon when we have more to wrry about than a few foam bullets... ( He pointed out an artilcle in the paper today where a museum bought 'an old letter' for £96,000, which 'would not provide any fun and exercise' unlike a forty quid toy...)

He wants it because they are planning a Nerf war on Saturday. Sorry.

Riddo · 30/03/2011 11:41

Mrs Guy, I feel your pain. We have nerf bullets everywhere including one in the living room lampshade. My ds is 11 and is obsessed with the things.

My rule is all bullets have to be picked up and put back in his room (the floor is covered in them) before he is allowed TV, Xbox etc. I like the ransom area idea, I think I'll adopt it Grin

My only consolation is that he saves hard to buy them and at least they don't involve screens (his other obsession)

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 30/03/2011 15:47

lol Willow - mystery solved!!!!! Riddo - yes, I guess its better than a screen game.

Yes, Mrs G, following opening of today's birthday presents, kitchen currently resembles scene from Apocalypse Now. God help this household come Saturday.

ragged · 30/03/2011 16:43

I'd let him buy it, OP. But you could negotiate confiscation terms (for a limited period) if he doesn't pick up when you tell him to.
