Is 13 weeks full pay, followed by 26 weeks SMP, followed by 13 of nothing a good deal?

Im thinking thats average but snooty woman at work who hates children (has made it known) and has made my pregnant life hell thinks thats a great deal.

Is it?!

Does anyone know what cabin crew get?

pinkpinkeverywhere · 29/03/2011 12:44

I am sooooooooo lucky as I get 12 months on full pay, I couldn't believe my luck when I started, and now I'll never leave until I finished having children!
To be fair woman are in a very small minority and it looks good on paper for them, also it means 99% of woman come back to work as they are also good about us coming back part time.
Sorry if I sound smug and yes I know how lucky I am.

daimbardiva · 29/03/2011 13:26

Yes, it's good. I get three months full, three months half and three statutory, then down to zilch.

Rambling Smile - I think you're right about it often being industries with less women. But rather than doing it because it's relatively cheap, it's because they know that they need to attract women more aggressively than other sectors where women are naturally drawn for whatever reason - culture, style, flexibility of work etc. So I work in the City and I'm never going to get much in the way of flexible working etc, but by giving me generous maternity pay, they've got a much better chance of me coming back.

If me and all the other women on mat leave don't come back, their numbers on women in the workplace start to look even worse which is very bad for them.

So I don't think your cynicism is incorrect, I'm just not sure cost is the part to be cynical about! Grin

Actually, to add to this, Pink's example is a good one. Her company probably want to be able to demonstrate they have women. In her, and probably many of her colleagues, they have a woman who is not going anywhere. This is good news for their statistics and for demonstrate they are friendly to women. They are probably also hoping that news of their fabulousness leaks out so that they can attract more women, thereby improving their statistics and women:men ratio even further.
