I can't actually see the point.

What's your position on bowels?

yes i do have a dishwasher but tbh sometimes can't be arsed with the loading/unloading shenangians, so just wash up instead. Bowls end up skanky, no matter how much you clean them. And it's just something else to clean.

Can't beleive I not only posted on this thread, but came back to it Confused

fartblossom · 28/03/2011 13:47

We dont have one, but with my new found cleanliness feeling I MIGHT get one.

To all the people asking where we tip the tea from cups etc, I just tip mine out BEFORE I fill the sink with soapy water. Anything thats harder to wash, have either like pans are put in soak straight away so when it comes to washing dihes time its easy. Anything forgotten about gets left in soak till next time. Glasses are washed first so they are rinsed as the sink is still filling. Everything gets dried straight away so soap suds aren't on plates, cuttlery etc for long. Pans get rinsed once the water has been emptied.

Thats how I do it. DH OTOH does all the hard stuff first like pans etc then gets some fresh water for the plates and glasses.

Off now to "shine my sink" Wink

grumpalo we have that washing up bowl Blush i bought it with the christmas money my gran gave me. she thought i was mad to buy a washing up bowl but I would never have bought it for myself IYKWIM and it looks great - is fab to use and cheers me up every single day.

sigh. have just realised what a sad creature i have become Grin

Mariez · 28/03/2011 13:53

I never use them. they are a waste. I have a sink. a bowl is just a smaller, usually plastic sink inside my normal sink.

the bowl people have been having their laughs on us for years!

FreeButtonBee · 28/03/2011 13:57

I use this special container that I have in my kitchen for washing up. It's call a sink. Grin

What I do is run hot tap in empty sink til hot, put plug in, dash of fairy, run hot water til there is an inch in the sink and start washing up at that stage. So my washing up is more akin to a shower that a bath. Allows me to soap and rinse all in on. Provided you don't run the tap too quickly, the sink won't fill up before you finish. I do have a dishwasher as well, so sink is only for shap knives and other non-dishwasher-able items.

SlightlyJaded Wash the bowl in the dishwasher! ;)

FreeButtonBee · 28/03/2011 14:02

Also first task before washing up is always to collect all empties and empty the dregs. If i get caught short, I empty into the dishwasher.

Rebeccaruby · 28/03/2011 14:04

Never use one as I find they get manky, but then we have a "one and a half " sink, where there is an ickle tiny sink beside the main one. But even when I've only had the one, I've just used the sink. Because the bowl gets manky unless you wash it after you've finished, and I'm too much of a dirty slut too busy to wash up when I've done the washing up Smile.

HipHopopotomus · 28/03/2011 14:25

They are very "English" (maybe British???). I'd never encountered one before moving to UK.

SlightlyJaded · 28/03/2011 14:50

DontGoCurly, that way madness lies.

nearlyuptheduff · 28/03/2011 14:53

Washing up bowls are THEE most disgusting things.

People that leave stinking water in them constantly and dip cups in said stinking water to wash them are also disgusting.

I do not see the point.... boak!!!

DontGoCurly · 28/03/2011 14:58

lol I wash everything in there! toothbrush mugs, kitchen sponge, scourers, small bins, washing up brush, toys, i wash the fridge shelves and all, not that I'm mad like Blush

FreeButtonBee · 28/03/2011 15:23

I washed the drawer from the washing machine in the dishwasher last night. Came up sparkling!

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 28/03/2011 15:46

I hate washing up bowls but we need one regardless. We have one of those enamel butler sinks and anything that goes in there can easuly get broken or could chip some of the enamel.....plus if you have a half drunk cuppa where do you chuck the cold tea, in the sink with all the washing up???? Eeeuwwww!!!

A necessary evil

smileymam · 29/03/2011 12:40
