orangeeyebrows · 27/03/2011 17:12

its their job

Earlybird · 27/03/2011 17:13

Is it a regular thing, or a one-off?

Does she whinge about anything in particular?

I have a dd, aged 10. We went to Disney a few weeks back and it wasn't the 'special time together' I would have hoped due to similar moments. Was also fascinated to see quite a few parents of 'tween' dc (hate that phrase, but can't think of a better one), shouting at their children in the park. Maybe it is simply a difficult age for all?

AgentZigzag · 27/03/2011 17:15

Why should you be any different to the rest of us and have happy non whinging DC?? Grin

Skinit · 27/03/2011 17:39

As long as she's not picked up the awful habit of calling everything "gay" yet, then you should count your lbessings!

Ooopsadaisy · 27/03/2011 17:43

Oh yes, Skinit. DD is 12.

I'm "gay"

Sunday dinners are "gay"

School is "gay"

Cleaning your bedroom is "gay".

Are you getting the idea yet?

Then, DS (14) tells me that his GCSEs are "gay"

I'm sorry to say you have a few more years of "gayness" to contend with.

Shannaratiger · 27/03/2011 17:43

My dd does this and she's only 7! Ds calls everything 'sad' and he's only 4 - I dread to think what they're going to be like when they reach nine! Hmm

orangeeyebrows · 27/03/2011 17:45

oh btw, they dont improve with age

mine is still moaning and stropping at aged 20

tkband3 · 27/03/2011 17:46

DD1 is a bit like that already - she's not 8 yet Hmm. And I've got twin DDs who are just 6, so looks like I've got quite a few years of stomping and shoulder shrugging in front of me.

I've told DH if he's really lucky, I'll hit the menopause around the same time as they all hit puberty.... Wink

Skinit · 27/03/2011 17:48

The worst I heard on here was a woman complaining that her DD thought the cat was "gay" as was toast!

heliumballoons · 27/03/2011 18:08

DS (6) has just started the 'pout' and 'ugh' sounds with the stomping off. I'm going with ignore ignore ignore. Its actually wroking out great as I've had lots of me time lately as he's done it a lot!!! Grin

I do tell him how to ask nicely and after he's sulked for a reasonable time he'll come back and speak nicely to me. Hmm

Did ROFL when he said 'you said I could have some coke when we'd been shopping, well we've been now'. (can I add we were on our way home!). I said 'Yes I did, but you need to think of a nicer way of talking to me, no-one should speak to their mum that way'.

DS replyed: 'well x and y (friends dc's) do'. Hmm Makes you realise they still 'copy' at this age.

dementedma · 27/03/2011 18:44

hate to tell you all but it gets worse up to about 17 then seems to tail off a bit into just moody staring and muttering, rather than slamming and flouncing!
Once told off DD2 when she was about 15 and then, turning my back on her, I could still feel the evil eye on me so I added "and stop rolling your eyes as well"
to which she replied coolly "i'm not. I'm flaring my nostrils!"
I had to leave the room to laugh.

StiffyByng · 27/03/2011 18:45

SD at 11 is constantly complaining about the entire world and our treatment of her in it. We're having a baby next month and I'm dreading the inevitable combination of 13 and toddler. What have we done?!

Happymm · 27/03/2011 20:27

Today my DD (6) in middle of strop, stropped off into bathroom, slammed and locked the door! Left her to it :) Came out 10mins later, and informed me, "you know mummy, I'm not in the bathroom, because I actually need to use the toilet, don't you?" PMSL! Yes, indeed my love, I did pick up on that one :o

readywithwellies · 27/03/2011 21:58

Am I the only one to be telling off my dd for using the word gay as a negative connatation? However, she tells me off for saying crap, so there you go!

AllDirections · 27/03/2011 22:22

StiffyByng I had a whole year of either DD1 (then age 11) or DD3 (then age 1) taking turns to scream their heads off about something, anything, everything, lol

Ooopsadaisy · 29/03/2011 13:09

readywithwellies - I tried.

I got a gay friend to discuss with DS the use of the word "gay" as a negative connatation. I left them to it, but came back to hear gay friend agreeing that "yeah, actually, GCSEs are really gay aren't they?"

Can't win 'em all.
