to 'make' DS go out to play?

Genuine question.

DS 6.7 is usually very active. Swims twice a week and goes to park most days as well as usual PE, playtime etc at school.

We went to the beach yesterday (there for 5 hours) and he fell asleep on the way home. (30 mins).

Been out to my parents and supermarket this morning and then had lunch. He said he's tired and wants to watch TV. I said he can watch it later and should go to the park for a bit as the weather is so nice. Anyway we went down to hang out washing and he saw some friends at the park and so went with heavy encouragement gentle persuasion.

AIBU or should I have just let him just lay and watch TV?

Depends on how tired he really was. If he was genuinely tired, and you can still tell at 6/7, can't you? then you were probably a bit U.
But if he seemed to be ok, then no, it was NU to send him to the park.

If he's that tired, he can go to bed early, can't he. :)

heliumballoons · 27/03/2011 14:12

He doesn't seem that tired iyswim. Complaining of being tired but still playing loudly happily. Wink

We did have a later lunch because of clocks, so he could have been hungry and having a lag? He is over there now swinging like a monkey Grin whilst I MN do the housework. Wink

Then you did the right thing - but you might still want to send him to bed early, just in case. Sea air can be very tiring, you know! Wink

heliumballoons · 27/03/2011 14:21

Yes I think the sea air affects you for at least 24 hours Wink Grin

DS has just come back sayiong he's tired and wants to lay down and watch a DVD. Well he did play out for 1/2 hour so it's a compromise I suppose. He may go out again in an hour or so so I can MN finish the housework in peace. Grin

Maybe he really is tired? Maybe he has one of the bugs going around that just zap a bit of your energy?

How lovely that you have a park he can go to, that you can see from your place!! Lucky you!

thumbwitch · 27/03/2011 14:33

If he's that tired, he may fall asleep watching the DVD and you can do your MNing housework in peace anyway. Wink

I operate a day in /day out policy

So if we've had a very busy day (at the beach for example) I dont mind a bit of flopping about the next day

BooyHoo · 27/03/2011 14:35

i think he sounds tired. if he is usually active and isn't wanting to go out then i would take his word for it. the sea does amazing things to DCs Grin

heliumballoons · 27/03/2011 14:38

I have to concede he may be tired. Is laying on his bedroom floor, watching a very fuzzy version of the Grand Prix Grin (he doesn't have TV as such but a cheapy ariel and TV my dad gave him and DVD player they bought him for xmas to watch something on it!)

Yes ChippingIn I am lucky. He is only allowed where I can see him being only 6 and having allergies so he can have his freedom without knowing I'm stalking him. Grin I usually stand and do the ironing in front of the window Smile

I can see the sea from my window. Does that explain why I can't get my teenageer out of bed in the mornings and she flops about all the time? :)

If he's playing happily he's fine. He'd have been fine watching TV too as he's otherwise active.

heliumballoons · 27/03/2011 14:41

I like the day in/ day out policy. Smile

I guess theres so much now about getting DC's out and about/ limiting screentime etc etc when its a lovely day and DS wants to watch TV I get all Hmm and Confused

Oh we have a day on/day off policy on lap tops computers too

So even if they do want to stay in they cant just watch agog if its a day in day off day

Luckily I have my day in/day out/ day on /day off ready reckoner to help me

Love it linda

Well DS laid down innhis room watching DVD for an hour. I then had to hang washing out so he ran around the garden for 10 minutes and we have just played board games for an hour. He is now playing tap a shape whilst I prepare dinner and run around the house and MN at the same time. Grin
