to be angry that someone has vandalised my car and I'm going to have to pay for it?

That's it really.

I woke up this morning to discover that some angry/bored young adult has ripped my car wing mirror off (and off another 5 cars in the road) and kicked some nice little dents in it. They've been arrested, they've confessed to doing it, but because of insurance, no claims bonuses, excesses, etc, etc, I will still have to foot the bill for the repairs. The only way I could get it covered is if my insurance company were willing to sue the little oik for the damages, which is highly highly unlikely.

It just makes my blood boil. Why should I have to pay out for someone else's hooliganism?

Grr grr grr Angry

Rant over, my DH is out at work and I had to get it off my chest...

Oh, and I can't effing drive till it's fixed.

YANBU, rant away!

We've had this where we used to live, and unfortunately some of the scrotes young people at my school have recently been involved in similar 'rampages'.

If the police know of the offenders, it might be worth writing them a letter, explaining how it's affected you. Lay it on thick, try to trigger some empathy in them - most schools these days are using a Restorative Justice approach, where they try to get the kids to think about how their actions have affected others.

It might not work, the letter might not even get through, but it might make you feel better and if it does get through, it might actually do the little darling some good!

It might even encourage them to contribute towards your repairs!

As he has confessed can you not press charges, that way he will have to pay you damages.

FabbyChic · 27/03/2011 13:15

She would have to take civil action, that costs thousands.

You cannot press charges personally, its the CPS who press charges. And as they are youths, probably first offence etc it will be a caution. Pursuing it further would cost the country as a whole far more than the damage caused itself. sad but true.
