I suspect I possibly worry a little too much about this as DD is in cracking health, never had anything like a urine infection. She just does not drink.

On a typical day she will have milk on cereal or porridge then after school will come home with drink untouched in packed lunch, perhaps have a sip of water or milk with dinner and refuse to drink any more. Has been known to drink milk at childminder's on day she goes there. She eats bucketloads of fruit and yoghurt though. Occasionally she gets thirsty and downs a few glasses of milk at once.

It seems she is getting enough liquid, but AIBU to gently nag at her daily to drink more? Bearing in mind gentle nagging has zero effect!

If you nag her, IMO it will start a battle and she will drink less.
Make sure there is always something available. If she's thirsty, she'll drink.

She may be getting enough liquid from all the fruit and yoghurt. And if she isn't eating much salt she will need less liquid. TBH if she isn't getting urine infections or headaches because of dehydration, I wouldn't worry about it. You know the idea that we have to drink so many glasses of water is a myth.

If she's eating bucket loads of fruit and veg, do you think she's mistaking thirst with hunger?

It was only recently I found out (yes, I know, I'm not very up to date on these things) that quite a lot of people mistake thirst for hunger and since finding that out I always drink a glass of water first to see if that sorts me out.

Don't know if this would apply to a child though or what you could do about it if it is!

Unless children have something medically wrong with them, they will drink enough for their bodies' needs.

Please bear in mind all this advice in the media that as adults we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day is complete bollocks. It's all based on a myth.

4Fox, yes I do think she doesn't know the difference. She's a fussy minx too though, so I give her free reign with the fruit bowl as it's all the fibre she gets, and a lot of the water.
I think I should stop nagging her. Maybe put a jug of something within her reach in the fridge so she can help herself.
I realise she doesn't seem to need it, just can't believe she's not thirsty. She is always hungry though.

the easy way to check is if her urine is dark, too dark means she isnt getting enough water. she is probably getting enough if she eats loads of fruit.

She pees pale, I've checked!
So, IABU. I thought so!
Still frustrated at all those poured away cups of milk though. Even if most are saved for morning cereal.
