I dont usually have a habit of staring at people in the communal showers, but this woman was FULL of chicken pox. Water splashing everywhere. She had been in the same exercise class as me. Waiting to get into the hall after was 3o new mums and their babies, for the baby class.

Aibu to think you stay at home and dont go splashing your chicken pox everywhere?

depends, were the spots all scabbed over? if not then YANBU she shouldn't be out with her contagious disease. but if scabbed then she's not contagious but probably felt a bit self conscious about having scabby spots all over her and you staring at her!

AgentZigzag · 25/03/2011 22:59

It's not for her to decide for other people, and it can be quite bad for babies can't it?

QuintessentialShadows · 25/03/2011 23:00

She had her back turned. And they were not scabbed over. Big red.

How can you be sure it was chickenpox though?

QuintessentialShadows · 25/03/2011 23:01

She had spent an hour sweating it out in the same room as would be filled with babies and new mums minutes later. Doing pushups and situps on the floor, etc.

She looked like my son did, when he had chicken pox.

If it was not CP, I really pity her for her skin. Sad

I doubt it was CP. An adult with CP would be unlikely to be fit enough to go to the gym

QuintessentialShadows · 25/03/2011 23:04

Well, then I shall stick my judgeypants firmly over my head!

Threads come up quite regularly on here don't they with people asking is this OK to do at whatever stage of the pox their children are at, so it's not like a black and white decision.

She must have thought about it beforehand, and feel well enough to be exercising?

AgentZigzag · 25/03/2011 23:07

Anyway, never mind the woman, YABU to go to the gym Grin

What came over you?

squeakytoy · 25/03/2011 23:09

I had CP as an adult, was lucky not to have too many spots on my body (mostly on my head, so scratching was bliss!).. but I certainly wouldnt have been up to going to the gym, I was so ill with it, as are most adults I know who have had it later in life. It knocked me for six for a few weeks.

LittleJennyRobyn · 25/03/2011 23:19

YANBU

I had chicken pox about 11 years ago, and although the spots were really bad i didn't feel ill at all. I carried on as normal and would have been able to go to the gym, (if i was into that) no problem, not everyone gets ill

The only time i went out though when it was absolutely unavoidable, as i looked like an overloaded pizza!! The spots were everywhere and i hated people staring. I still have the scars to boot.

I would never intentionally go to somewhere like the gym if i had it.

LDNmummy · 25/03/2011 23:36

There are other skin conditions that you could have confused it for, I doubt anyone would be in a state to be sweating it out anywhere with CP, especially not adult CP which is worse.
