To not put my children to bed so they are so tired they sleep in tomorrow morning?

Many years ago now, but we used to wrap a biscuit in clingfilm and have a drink ready in a drinking cup, and when DS1 (now 23) used to come into us at 6 am we'd persuade him back to his bed for an hour or so with his drink, biscuit and books and get another bit of sleep in time
Always worked for us but don't remember this with DS2. Life obviously became more chaotic by then!

AintMissBeehiving · 25/03/2011 22:28

This never works with my DCs! Good luck.

bonkers20 · 25/03/2011 22:46

It didn't work for DS1 until he was about 3.

It works for DS2 though. Over Xmas I got to sleep in until 8.30am a few times...it was light and everything! It doesn't work on the odd day for us, but they CAN adjust over a few days. They all do, otherwise they'd never adjust to the clocks changing.

What is this lie-in of which you all speak? Is that when you sleep until your body has had enough rest and you gently wake from your peaceful slumber ready to greet the day with a smile on your face and a spring in your step?

I wonder how many of our little ones are greeted with groans in the morning?!

Rosedee · 26/03/2011 06:44

Did it work?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 26/03/2011 06:55

If I do this with DD she wakes up all night then gets up at 5, strangely

MeRightYouWrongMeBigYouSmall · 26/03/2011 06:55

so much for dd always waking at 7.30am - she's been up since 6am!

nevergoogle - go on then, enlighten us, did your plan work?

Georgimama · 26/03/2011 06:56

Bet poor OP has been up since 5.

CheerfulYank · 26/03/2011 07:07

I want to know too!

If DS falls asleep at 7 p.m. he wakes up around 7 a.m. and is a delightful little man all day.

If DS falls asleep at 9p.m. he wakes up around 7 a.m. and is short-tempered.

If DS falls asleep any later he wakes up around 7a.m. and is a feral beast out of sorts all day and night.

So...would make no difference at my house. Best of luck OP! :)

tryingtoleave · 26/03/2011 07:11

Good luck with it. I'm considering the opposite, but worried that if I put dcs to bed now (at 6) they will be up at 5.... They are a bit under the weather though, and I'm hoping they might just need to sleep a lot.

theredhen · 26/03/2011 07:14

Lol to whoever said 7.30 was early! My dsc are early risers. 5.30am not unusual and 6am the norm. They are aged 8 and 12! Dp thinks this is perfectly normal, i don't. :-(

toddlerwrangler · 26/03/2011 09:14

I am confused - don't we change the clocks 1am tonight so the take effect tomorrow morning?!

inchoccyheaven · 26/03/2011 09:20

My 10 yr old is still in bed but 8 yr old and I had to get up at 7.30am as he was going to legoland with cousins. I would normally still be in bed at this time at the weekends as mine are very self suffcient and don't need me to do anything for them when they get up.

nevergoogle · 26/03/2011 09:33

Hazaaa!

They got up at 8.45am together and pottered off to the living room without even coming to get me.

DH however woke me at 6.30 with loud snoring and then again with his alarm and then twice with important Hmm information that needed passed on before going out to work. Hmm

Still, the boys seem cheerful and so do i actually.

Lets see how the day goes.

toddlerwrangler, don't be confused this has nothing to do with clocks changing. i just wanted to sleep later than 7am on one day this week. i work full time, start at 8.30am. the boys are 6 and 3.

i'm not entirely sure meright.
something about work phone messages, and to give out his mobile number, not his work number. he's at his play job today.
there was another message but i was dreaming about being pregnant with siamese cats so it got a bit muddled.

Dd2 is the early riser in our house. Luckily she sleeps in the same room as dd1 who, if woken before 8am, will growl "Go back to sleep or play something quiet. It's still night time"

Dd2 sees this as a challenge to do something that will wake dd1 up and leaves us alone. Eventually my well trained dd1 gives up, goes and gathers yoghurts and snacks and puts the TV on in their room so she can snooze in peace.

boosmummie · 26/03/2011 11:21

I'm quite lucky with DD3. She will sleep min of 12 hours whatever time I put her to bed and have been often guilty of engineering such lie-ins to suit myself

The older DCs on the other hand would wake in varying degrees of temper at 7.30am EVERY day regardless of time they went to bed. They are now teenagers so sleep all day and are therefore not a problem. And they don't require feeding til the late afternoon, which is a break in itself!!

0891 · 26/03/2011 11:25

DS slept until 6.23am this morning, which is at least an hour's lie-in for me compared to the normal pre-5am shenanigans of recent history. Envy

boosmummie · 26/03/2011 11:29

Oooh that's tough 5am????

0891 · 26/03/2011 12:05

Aye, 5am

boosmummie · 26/03/2011 12:25

Mainlining caffeine I do hope. YOu're screwed otherwise today Grin
