What the hell is that all about?

3 pretentious brats children, with fake curls, eye shadow and lipgloss. Stomping about in hideous overpriced tacky shoes.

So, having never heard of the brand ( to my credit) I googled it - £45 quid + WHAT? Who buys this toot?

I don't think you should call kids pretentious brats. So you don't like the shoes. Fine. Those kids are someone's children!

worraliberty · 25/03/2011 20:02

A Dad had his DD in his arms in my local shop yesterday and was telling everyone that her pink plimsoles cost him £50 and they were thes Lellie Kellie things.

They looked cute..but no cuter than a lot of the shoes in Asda and Primark.

YABU to be annoyed that shoe companies are advertising shoes on TV though? Confused

Those kids appeared to be prentious brats to me - maybe just good acting though, its amazing what a 6 year old with an equity card can achieve!

dd went through a stage of wanting these a couple of years ago, luckily it did not last long..

it was sparked by one of my friends dd's (aged 4!) constantly talking about her new shoes

"i want to go outside, where are my lellie kellie sandals" and "i am taking my lellie kellies off now"

all highly weird Hmm

MerryMarigold · 25/03/2011 20:11

That ad has been around (or similar) for YEARS. And now you have mentioned it, I can't get that horrible jingle out of my head, "Oh yeah!"

Dd would love those shoes. I must make sure she never sees this ad.

pointythings · 25/03/2011 20:14

My DDs have both seen that ad many times and have always expressed disgust at the ridiculous sparkly monstrosities they call shoes. But then I've indoctrinated them into the fine art of anti-consumerist lentil weaving from birth Grin.

MissGreatBritain · 25/03/2011 20:14

I think the moral to this is, don't let your kids watch the shit channels Nick Jr.

MrsMoosickle · 25/03/2011 20:20

Agree MGB, wholeheartedly and do try and prevent such unheathly activities with the following disclaimer:

Nick Juniorwith Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly when mixed with snack time make for an empty plate and a tantrum free 30 mins

In addition when watched while Mummy is on mumsnet cleaning the bathroom make for a sparkling and harmonious household! Grin

But Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly and Humpf are on Nick Jr.

pointythings, I am a tomboy who never wears makeup or dresses, but somehow dd is fascinated by all things pink and sparkly, including shoes, jewellery etc - and she doesn't even have that much, only things people have given! She is refusing her beautiful brown duffel coat (that belonged to both her brothers, but looks lovely on her too) and always wants "my pink coat" (hideous gilet thing which is sized 6-12mths and she is 2.5!).

MoChan · 25/03/2011 20:29

They are completely grim. But then, I am generally alarmed by the tacky pink/sparkly crap that seems to have become a totally accepted part of girlhood these days. Also can't tolerate it when people say things like "Oh, they're just little girls, let them BE little girls and have their sequinned tat", so don't anybody say it. I liked pretty things, too, when I was a child, but they were properly pretty things, not day-glo, cheap, plasticky, overdone rubbish. This stuff is not pretty, or essential to girlhood.

Pocketsocks · 25/03/2011 20:30

No! Not that damn song again! YABU simply for putting that tune in my head yet again! That's the real reason you made this thread isn't it? You saw it, got the tune stuck and wanted us all to suffer too!

Kidding, of course. I agree. They are hideous and cheap looking for the price and I'm so pleased I have boys who have no interest in them. Although DS1 did once ask if I'd like a pair.

MrsMoosickle · 25/03/2011 20:38

LOL Pocketsocks. Sorry about the tune. I agree its hellish! That said I have endured Barney's "I love you" on repeat in the car for 2 weeks.

I kid you not.

That is a torture type.

Marigold,

They do ougrow pink, they really do. At 2.5 my two were both pink fiends as well. At 8 and 10 they wear any colour (have been for some time) and their winter coats are proper black wool duffles. They want plain denim jackets for summer coats. This too shall pass.

They still never wanted Lelli Kellis though, so at least that worke. DD2 has now said she really likes Bakugan and wants some, I said go raid your piggy bank and have at it!

MerryMarigold · 25/03/2011 20:51

Phew, thanks for that pointy. I was worried I'd produced a freak, or was pushing her into pinkiness by my complete lack of it!

They are hidious overpriced shoes that wont last at all. If I am going to pay that kind of money I want shoes that last and look nice.

Good point Zukiecat....I dislike all of this demonization of pink, glittery things for girls, it's JUST as negative as the media pushing overly glam//tacky clothes at girls.

elphabadefiesgravity · 26/03/2011 15:50

DD wanted them and I said no.

However they are really good quality, I know loads of girls who have had them and they have lasted and lasted much better than Clarks.

I think they look tacky. The ads are American.

beautyguru · 26/03/2011 16:49

Actually pigletmania thay do last! My DD got a pair last summer (the plainest ones I could find without heels or bling all over them I might add!) And they were really good shoes, far better than the clarks doodles she had had in the past. They have a removeable leather insole for hygiene reasons and can also be worn without it once feet have grown as this gives more space in the shoes. And can be machine washed if dirty. And unlike cheaper shoes from Next, Asda, Tesco etc they didnt cut her feet to shreds..she said they were super comfy and never gave her blisters or left marks on her feet.

That said I abhor the advert as does DD...she even mutes it the minute it comes on Grin And I would never let her have a pair of the "school shoes" as they are vile!!! But thats just my humble opinion Wink

Pagwatch · 26/03/2011 16:55

Dd has had these. She doesn't want them anymore but if she wanted them I would buy them.

They last fucking ages and never fall apart or have bits fall off. She likes the Mary janes. I think getting hysterical about a pair if shoes, as if they even faintly likely to change an ordinary girl into a brat is a bit daft. They are only shoes.

And my DD never looks cheap.

But the ad really is shit

thinkingkindly · 26/03/2011 17:25

A friend of DD's had them and I have to admit that they looked much nicer than I imagined from the hideous ad. But they are way overpriced (£45 for sandals!).
