To note that the models in the new bravissimo catalogue have pretty small racks?

UnquietDad

Grin I imagine many a happy hour was spent before you stopped fantasising 'worked out' what your DW really meant.

UnquietDad · 28/03/2011 09:42

Oh yes, plenty of "research" :)

BakeliteBelle · 28/03/2011 09:46

They are far too thin. I would like to see larger women modelling these bras, seeing as they must mainly be bought by larger women. The shop assistants are always skinny, young girls too. I would like my boobs measured by a big mama with fingers like sausages, please

JessicaDrew · 28/03/2011 09:49

would that big mama have a cat called Thomas!!!

ullainga · 28/03/2011 09:53

It's quite nice to have some shift dresses and buttoned shirts that actually fit, but i agree, most of the clothing is designed to draw attention to boobs, which I think any Bravissimo /peppa pig :o girl gets enough already.

And the dresses they described as fit for work - I'm not sure where exactly you are supposed to work, definitely not in an office - they are all way too low cut and I have to wear a shirt under the dress not to show tons of cleavage.

MmeLindt · 28/03/2011 09:54

Lol at PeppaPig. Did none of the product designers have pre-school children?

Yes, they all are rather skinny.

I am always struck by the nursing bras photos - is a law that photos of nursing bras have to show the model smiling down admiringly at the clip.

From my experience of bfing, I was generally juggling a baby, getting tangled in jumper and tshirt, while cursing the bloody clip for not opening and trying not to flash unsuspecting passersby.

MikeRotch · 28/03/2011 11:33

agree re attention
i dont want frilly bras that show through
i want PLAIN ones

9 years of teaching adolescent boys has made me keen on bras that to coin my sister "look like prostheses"

LeQueen- why would you rather see them with 'proper' tummies and no waist? How does that in any way affect the way the bra and underwear looks in the shot? I can understand how it would be beneficial to have bigger girls modelling the clothing, but big breasts are big breasts- it doesn't make a difference whether they're a 38H on a skinny person or on a fat person!

I think the models have been getting smaller and smaller and I'm sure (or at least that's what I tell myself) that their sizes are getting bigger too. Used to be a 32dd/e but latest bra is 32ff! My old bras still fit though.

I wonder if they're trying to open up to more of the market, I know plenty of c cup women who would be thrilled at the idea they're a dd instead!

Other half and i always wonder if they airbrush the pubic hair away when the models are wearing lacy knickers. Of course they could have no hair to start with but it always looks a bit strange - not the lack of hair more that some of the pants are scant enough that you'd still see labia if not hair!

cushionyet · 28/03/2011 14:43

Um, well no... As far as I was aware, Bravissimo simply provide underwear for women with a larger bra size and don't claim that this is necessarily indicative of being 'real, normal, or curvy'.

Whilst I agree that the majority of women needing a larger bra size are unlikely to be the size 8- 12s that the models are on the website, I really cannot see how a bra alone would really look any different on a woman with 38H breasts on a size 8 body than they would on a on a size 16 body.

Of course, the stomach, arms and waist will be bigger, but how does this affect the appearance of the bra in any way? A bra either fits or it doesn't- my stomach size does not affect the appearance of my underwear at all, meaning that whilst the lovely slender girl with boobs the same size as me looks better in her underwear than me, ultimately, our breasts look roughly the same in that bra!

As I said, I can understand why it would be important for clothing, since the appearance of clothing IS dramatically affected by the weight of the wearer, but breast size is not.

Oh, and nice comments about 'real' women not having toned arms, tiny waists and flat tummies by the way.

slug · 28/03/2011 14:57

Well, for one thing, the matching knickers look and fit completely differently on the larger woman. It's a bit pointless modelling them on girls with jutting hipbones when most of their clientele have a bit more padding there.

I don't object to the flat stomachs, I object to the use of models that only just have boobs big enough to fit into the bras that are sold in the shop. A 32dd bra can often look fairly dainty, the same bra in a 32ff can look like industrial scaffolding :)

tyler80,in the days before Brazilians, talcum powder was used to disguise pubic hair.I agree with LeQueen. In my past life I sometimes had to dress catwalk models.Pins and bulldog clips were essential bits of kit-that is one reason why clothes fit models perfectly but hang oddly on a normal person of a similar build when they try them on.

Acekicker · 13/04/2011 13:59

I'm resurrecting this thread as I've now looked at the Peppapig catalogue and I've another gripe about them... why do so many of their tops now have the 'band' under the bust and then they flare out massively beneath that?

I've adored Bravissimo tops in the past as they've fitted beautifully and let me wear flattering/fitted clothes without then having those unattractive parallel tension lines where they're too small round my boobs.

All these band and flare tops achieve the same effect as when I have to buy 16/18 sized tops in that they look 'baggy' round my body and create the 'is-she-trying-to-hide-a-pregnancy-or-just-getting-podgy' look. I've never minded spending more than I would on tops from elsewhere with them previously as it's been worth it for clothes that fit well and make me feel good, but I can't see myself buying much this season at all.

And why do they only ever do the strappy tops (which are flippin' genius) in such a limited range of colours - I'd love them in pink, purple, green... but each year it's red/black/white and that's your lot.
