a note asking them to leave the pink shoes in the stock room unless the other coloured shoes don't fit?

I am sick of pink.

Well?

I'm right with you on this one. Do what you must :o

nigglewiggle · 25/03/2011 10:27

I usually whisper "nothing too pink or sparkly" which does the trick. I feel your pain!

iskra · 25/03/2011 10:28

Hah. I say "ANYTHING BUT PINK" very loudly.

iskra · 25/03/2011 10:28

Very quietly I mean!

SuchProspects · 25/03/2011 10:43

Is there any point? I detest pink, but it seems girls shoes only come in shades of pink and white. I search high and low for purples and reds. :(

piprabbit · 25/03/2011 10:49

I walk out of the shop if I can't see any colours I can live with.

If we get as far as speaking to the assistant, then I say 'no pink'.

However DD has huge feet and by the age of 3 was in sizes that meant she only had the black schoolwear shoes to choose from, so when we finally found some floral monstrosities shoes, I relented because she will have a lifetime of wearing sensible black shoes.

iskra · 25/03/2011 10:52

The shoe options are awful, aren't they?

Boys seem to only have ugly brown shoes themselves.

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 25/03/2011 10:53

SuchProspects

There are non-pink shoes out there, I have seen them.

Shame is tho, DD has a 'pinkdar' and would be dressed like this if she had her way

I always seem to end up with Noel shoes. They are pretty but more dusky pinks/ purples etc rather than sickly sparkly pinks.

Bogeyface · 25/03/2011 10:56

At my local Clarkes they ask if there are any colours you particularly do or dont want, away from the child, which I think is good. So yes, do say something!

She will grow out of it, really! (DD is almost 7 and graduating to lilac and blue). When she was little I just let her get on with the pink thing, I reckoned it was better to OD on pink and get it out of her system then to still be wearing it when she grows up!!! Grin

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 25/03/2011 11:02

Geocentric

I am wishing her life away waiting for that day......... Sad

and I know you are right, but they are so vile [boak]

Beaker That is quite scary I am dreading my girls developing their own "taste". Could you tell her all the pink shoes are magic and overnight turn into toad shoes? Then get a can of green spray paint and abracadabra....

DooinMeCleanin · 25/03/2011 11:05

Dd1 has also grown out of pink, mostly. She refuses to wear most pinks, hot pinks are slightly acceptable, but not if they are mixed with flowers or frills.

She also refuses to wear anything that is too 'girly' or too 'babyish' or too 'boyish' or too 'sporty' or too black or too plain or that is not 'fashion'.....

She is a pain in the arse to shop with/for. Especially for shoes. She has odd shaped feet so only one or two pairs from the whole shop will fit properly and they are almost always pink or black

I mourn the days when as long as it was pink and sparkly she would wear it Sad

Dd2 would be happy wearing a tatty sack so long as you didn't want to brush her hair Hmm

redstripeyelephant · 25/03/2011 11:23

oooh what a good idea!

DD1 is 3 and also going through a real princess phase. Despite all her lovely carefully chosen gender-neutral toys, all she wants to play with is a one-legged barbie stolen from her cousin Sad

2plus2more · 25/03/2011 12:54

You are not being unreasonable at all! I go in and begin the conversation by saying...
No pale pink
Bright pink will only be accepted if it is in a funky design
No patent
No silver/gold
No sparkles
ABSOLUTELY NO shoes that come with lip-gloss or something else inappropriate for a 3 year old. (i.e. NO Lelli Kellys!)

I must be a complete PITA customer, but they know me now and know what I like. I almost always end up with Agatha Ruiz De La Prada shoes as they are pretty and girlie, but without being pink, sparkly mush! There's a good range online and they are often cheaper online too, so if I can't find anything in the shop I like then I double check the size/style and look online. Check out this website to see the kinds of styles they do. My daughter currently has the purple version of the birds & bows ones and everyone comments on how gorgeous they are!

thaigreencurry · 25/03/2011 13:03

YANBU. I could have cried when the shop assistant brought out a pair of shoes with those toy figures in. I would have thought ds would have out grown them by now but oh no he had to have that pair even though they were £6 more expensive than the others. Hmm

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 25/03/2011 13:07

Oh god I forgot about patent ones...

I'm willing to trade pink for silver trims (it looks like grey after a few wears anyway IMO) but the stuff in the heels Shock

Beaker thinks again about this trip out Sad

Thank the Lord I've never had this problem. DD's favourite colour is blue and she loves all bright colours. Shoe shopping is a pain in the butt though, due to the complete lack of imagination that Clarks girls shoe designers have.

The toys are an abomination, and actually really weird. 'Look, buy these shoes and you can continually crush this small, defensless creature beneath your feet'.

basana · 25/03/2011 13:18

YANBU but then all Clarks kids' shoes are a bit of a style dead end. An independent shoe shop (or smaller chain like One Small Step) is so much better at stocking a range of brands - from Start Rite to Euro brands, which range from slightly less hideous to pretty cool stuff.

basana · 25/03/2011 13:19

DD has black patent for parties, very classic, I love them!

Eglu · 25/03/2011 13:20

YANBU. I currently only have boys, but go into independent shops and say no Clarks, nothing brown. Doesn't leave much choice though.

I know that it is not going to get much better when I have my DD.

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 25/03/2011 13:23

It's not just Clarks though is it?

DD had some absolute abominations really cute pink from StartRite, but luckily they were in the sale and as she'd only gone up a half size and I can't resist a bargain I succumbed hoping she wouldn't be wearing them that long
