To turn down free books for DS

I had a call from a charming man trying to get me to sign DS up for free Disney books. They would send six books, I could look through them and send four them back if I didn't want to keep them, keeping two for free. I told the man that I wasn't interested on the basis that the Disney books I've seen are poorly-written tat, I dislike the Disneyfication of everything to do with babies and it would be a hassle to return the books. He was Shock that I would turn down free books for my son. Was I not interested in reading? Was I really going to deprive my baby of free books? Didn't I know how important it was to introduce books to children as soon as they are born?! I left him muttering to himself about 'TV parenting' and hung up.

I now feel slightly guilty. I wasn't being the laziest parent in the world was I?

Should have told him how great your local library is.

YANBU. I have had a call about these books after each of my DC were born. I got them after DS1 was born, and because I was too tired to return the four books, I ended up having to pay for them Blush

he was just trying to make you feel guilty in order to sell you shit.

Disney books are 'poorly-written tat' as you say. Much better to get some good books from your local libraries. Not reading disney books doesn't = not reading any books.

Plus you probably would have been added to teh marketing list of several hundred other companies.

I adore books and wouldn#t have touched it wtih a barge pole.

YANBU. He was trying to emotionally manipulate you into making him commission. Nice.

Four of them. I clearly need to work on my literacy skills.

My local library is great, as are my bookshelves and my special voice for the mouse in The Gruffalo :O Wouldn't it be fab if I could rewind time and say the witty things I should have said first time round in any given situation?
