To make (13) to do her own ironing?

Every day after school she gets changed. Every evening the entire outfit goes straight into the wash basket, even though she's only worn it for 3 hours maximum. I wouldn't mind but each outfit consists of approximately 27 different items of clothing (whoever decided layering was "in" should be shot!).

There's only me, dh and dd here but my ironing pile is constantly full of dd's clothes. I suggested she do some of her own ironing but that idea caused a tantrum that could have been heard several miles away didn't go down too well.

IABU? BTW when I was her age (god I sound old) I had to do all my own washing, and ironing.

DS does his own washing and ironing. He is 17 but has been doing it for at least 4 years. I warned him that if he didnt bring his clothes down regularly ( to avoid a huge pile every 4 weeks), if he didnt put his clothes away after I had folded them - he would have to do it all himself.

So he does. Why on earth shouldnt he?

I am happy to do things for all of my family but I refuse to be treated like a servant.

I have four boys now. There is no way on this earth I am going to spend my middle years washing and ironing for that lot!

I do the washing. My DD does her own ironing and puts her clothes away. Since she started this, she has been putting less unworn clothes in the wash.

Speedy, it's ironic Smile

Don't you know who I am ?? Wink

Does most of her stuff actually need ironing? I would only ever iron things like work/school shirts or tailored trousers and similar, never jeans, t-shirts, casual tops etc. Especially if she's only going to wear it in the house anyway! I know people have different standards for these things though and would consider me very lazy and scruffy...

YANBU to get her to help with the laundry/ironing though, at her age it's good to be learning to do these things, and even more so if she's producing a ridiculous amount of work for you!

Err... ...err...are you David Cameron?

I'm sorry, I genuinely don't know, PeterAndre - clearly I'm not spending enough time on MN! Grin
