What sort of pervert dreams up tie on nipples for little girls to wear? Definitely not ok people.

Numberfour · 23/03/2011 20:55

bloody ridiculous.

fatlazymummy · 23/03/2011 20:56

I agree it's going a little to far. I object to the sentence 'little girls need to learn to breastfeed'. No they don't, any more than they need to learn how to feed with a bottle. Breastfeeding isn't obligatory.

otchayaniye · 23/03/2011 20:56

paedo lactation fetishists, wafflepuss?

I've been around and seen a lot of niche things on the internet but I've not come across these

otchayaniye, so relieved I haven'f offended you! The weird thing is, the sort you describe doesn't make me feel uneasy at all; I know all families have things that go on behind closed doors (my dad still pees with the door open!!) - I guess it's more when people go public with it in magazines/newspapers and sort of imply their way is the right way and anyone viewing it who feels it's a bit unusual is a stupid ignorant person who is an anti feminist etc ... I've known a few like this unfortunately, maybe that's what clouds my judgement!

PuzzleRocks · 23/03/2011 21:00

What Reality said.

otchayaniye · 23/03/2011 21:03

Trust me Rowan, you'd never look at me and have me down for an extended feeder. I wear Louboutins and lipstick and believe in genetically modified food and think complementary therapy is woo.

I do think however, they do have the right to feed if they want to, wherever, though by age 2-3 most feeding is a presettling one (not always but commonly, I think)

But if anyone said that feeding beyond a given year was right and you're all body hung-up, anti-maternal, pusillanimous ninnies for not continuing, that would be rude. And rude people unfortunately come in all stripes and styles.

sungirltan · 23/03/2011 21:04

fatlazymummy -on bf isn't obligatory but its not been successfully normalised yet either in the way that artificial feeding has

Wafflepuss · 23/03/2011 21:06

Well if it's ok for little girls to be simulating breast feeding why bother with the tie on nipple/flower attachment at all? Buy the doll and just have them lift their top up and attach the dolls mouth to their nipple. Coz that'd be a totally beautiful and natural thing to do, and not weird at all eh?

otchayaniye · 23/03/2011 21:09

I think sometimes some women can appear overly zealous and strident and tendentious when they feel they need to defend something that is biologically normal, yet seen as faintly weird/hippyish/cloying.

But that doesn't excuse pomposity, prejudice or bad footwear.

otchayaniye · 23/03/2011 21:10

"Coz that'd be a totally beautiful and natural thing to do, and not weird at all eh?"

That's what my daughter does.

She also does it on her belly button as well. She definitely is weird!

I'm with OP. I think it's too far but I've never been the earth mother type. In fact, I find dolls in general a bit creepy - American Girl or whatever that scary shop on 5th Ave is anyone?

PinkFondantFancy · 23/03/2011 21:15

I think it's fine. It would be a lot more disturbing if the bra/apron thingy was a massive pair of inflatable boobs!!

Wafflepuss · 23/03/2011 21:18

I guess I just object to a company making a set of "nipples" for a young girl to wear, I find it really creepy. Clearly if little girls simulate breast feeding naturally during play that's one thing, but being presented with a set of nipples to me is a step too far.

otchayaniye · 23/03/2011 21:21

Waffle, you just said that that WAS weird

"Buy the doll and just have them lift their top up and attach the dolls mouth to their nipple. Coz that'd be a totally beautiful and natural thing to do, and not weird at all eh?"

So it's all weird to you, basically?

DancingThroughLife · 23/03/2011 21:24

"Coz that'd be a totally beautiful and natural thing to do, and not weird at all eh?"

There's photos of me doing this age 3 (I'm guessing, it must have been around the time my brother was a baby). Don't see what's so weird about a child mimicking their mother.

Saying that, you would have been in histrionics at me doing it with my bear, cat and fish toys too.

Or playing with my toy kitchen and doing the pretend washing up Shock

DancingThroughLife · 23/03/2011 21:25

oops x posted

Wafflepuss · 23/03/2011 21:28

Yes I do think it's weird but as I said above, if this is something that some little girls do of their own volition, naturally during play then fair enough. As I said it's the manufacturing of strap on nipples for little girls that I object to.

And I'd bet the farm that if your little girl lifted her top and started pretending to breastfeed in public you'd quietly ask her to stop.

bristolcities · 23/03/2011 21:29

I think it's the 'message for life' bit that bothers me. I can't articulate it properly but I'm thinking something along the lines of why are we teaching girls to be mums from 3 years old. I was hoping we had progressed slightly beyond this.

AlistairSim · 23/03/2011 21:33

My DS would love that.

Might even stop him trying to feed his dinosaurs from his penis.

mybabywakesupsinging · 23/03/2011 21:34

ds1 fed his toy elephant.
ds2 pretends to feed ds1 (then burps him).
They know its a game. They are curious as to what their own nipples are for, as they have worked out that boys do not make milk.
They were both pregnant when I was expecting dd, too. ds2 popped out dozens of babies (he claimed).
Don't all dc copy, without needing any props?

bringonthegoat · 23/03/2011 21:36

I think it's great to have a doll that doesn't come with a bottle. I dislike the bra thing - not nessecary IMO. Understand it makes the mouth move but think a different design - like tiilting baby onot it'e side to make mouth move would be better than odd bra top thing.

DancingThroughLife · 23/03/2011 21:36

Grin Alistair

If she had this top though Waffle, she wouldn't need to lift up her top in public Smile
