To want to ask my MIL what the hell she was thinking?

Let me preface by saying I would never actually ask her and that she is a lovely MIL and I have none of the prevalent MIL issues seen on MN.

However, I would like to call and ask her where her brain was when she was choosing birthday presents for myself and my husband this year.

For mine it was a voucher to a local store that sells nothing but expensive, breakable china/glassware/things like that. I have a toddler. All of my pretty stuff is stored away for the foreseeable future. She well knows this. Usually I get a voucher for clothes. That I could use this year as I've lost nearly 2 stone!

My husband? He got a dressing gown. He has a perfectly fine dressing gown. Which she also knows as she comes to visit quite often to see the aforementioned toddler.

It is not that I am not grateful for her thoughtfulness. I am. She doesn't have to remember our birthdays at all.

But what the hell was she thinking?!?!

So shall I not bother to insure it?! It was bought in the North East, near to Hadrian's Wall, which almost makes t Roman treasure.

p.s. your mother-in-law sounds like a very nice, generous lady.

Tee2072 - sometimes it's like the Humour Bypass board. My EX (YES!!) MIL bought my EX a jumper - every single birthday. Even though they were so ghastly he never wore them. Every single year they expected him to be suprised by his gift Hmm

My friend, who I love & adore (she's known me ALL my life), knows I hate purple - always have, always will.... what did she buy me for my birthday?? A purple handbag? LOL I don't 'do' handbags either.... I'm wondering if she's hoping I'll give it to her as it's just her thing Grin

One year, I was travelling (had been for a couple of years, no plans to stop, didn't have my own place...) what did my Mum (yes my MUM) buy me? A new backpack? thermals? day bag? nooooo A glass cheese board and knife... should I mention I was also Vegan?

I could go on Grin

PS Do you have a photo of your perfume bottle? It sounds lovely... not to mention FAR better off stored somewhere safe until DS is married and living overseas!

It really is Chipping!

I actually don't have a picture of that one or the Roman one that is even older. They actually aren't that pretty because it is a property of glass that it starts to come apart in layers as it ages, so they are a bit dull and shredded looking! Although the Roman one actually looks a bit like it is pearl because it has that lustre and multicolour hue that really nice pearls have.

Well, if it's from Hadrian's Wall, Olivetti.....

Tee - they sound really interesting! I didn't know that about glass (or rather I didn't know that was why glass started looking like that).

Seems like we killed your thread Grin
