to have an elective caesarian for #2 after a difficult birth with #1?

Or is it wrong to not even "try" for a natural birth?

I don't think there would be a medical problem but the thought of going through labour again is too much to bear! I am actually terrified, my first birth was 70 hours and after battling through for 2 days with nothing I ended with every form of intervention going, finally an emcs.

I know there are more risks to me with a cs, and it is a major operation, but medically is it worse for the baby if I don't wait for labour to start?

YANBU, same here. Laboured for 48 hours then EMCS. My hospital were great though. Saw midwife and told her what I wanted, no argument, saw consultant, booked date. Unfortunately dd decided to come two weeks early so I ended up having to labour for 8 hours before section. I felt very cheated!

YANBU I had two natural which weakened my pelvic floor I imagine a csec weakens your stomach, why damage two areas, go for it sorry about your hard first birth.

My son was in SCBU after going through a harrowing birth which ended in an emergency section. No way was I putting myself and DS2 through that shit. Had an elective section with DS2 which was truly lovely (although I started crying when I had to get on the operating table as I was so scared). It was a much more positive experience than DS1's birth. The only thing I will say is that I recovered very quickly from the EMCS but took about 6 weeks to recover from the elective - I've no idea why, you'd have thought it would have been the other way round.

Someone I know had an elective cs and her baby inhaled some of the amniotic fluid as he came out and ended up in scbu. However another friend of mine had an emergency cs and had her dd with a planned cs and it was much calmer an less frightening. I think you should talk to the midwife.

YANBU at all. Ds 2 gave me a third degree tear and inhaled amniotic fluid or swallowed meconium I can't remember which as it was many moons ago now but he went to scbu.

The doctors assumed I'd want an elcs for ds3 but it may have been because I had had a section before with ds1 when it was an emcs.

Yanbu.

I was blessed with two textbook births and that was bad enough.

If you feel strongly that you need a cs and have made an informed choice, then go for it.

YANBU - I had an elective section after an emergency, and I was advised to have this by the medical professionals. Good luck with what ever you decide.
