or possibly more irrational. But have no idea how to deal with this one.

I have 2 teenage DDs and live in the safest, nicest area. Never have an issue with them being out and about, going to friends houses, walks etc.

There is a girl missing very locally to here. Went missing on Friday night, no sign of her since. I cannot imagine what her parents are going through.

Anyway. I am normally really relaxed about the DDs going out and about alone and with friends but this has got me very twitched. I suppose because it is so unusual in this area.

So. I need to get the Ds to be extra careful and vigilant without scaring them but on the other hand my mother instinct tells me to never let them out again. So how do I get the balance right? and how do I put it in perspective?

I would just have the same talk you've probably had over the years as they got more and more freedom, a kind of refresher if you like. I would let them out just as you always did but reinforce safety etc

Maybe the girl has ran away and is staying with friends or she disappeared from somewhere else

yes. will ask them to be extra careful.
poor girl missing is not likely to have run away. it's very sad.
am namechanging back to normal (changed as story is v local to me and don't want to be outed) so i'm not ignoring thread.

Is the girl the one from the news who went missing after going to a nightclub - then her mobile phone signal was suddenly 15 miles away in the middle of a wood? If so, how awful, probably not going to be a happy ending.

As mmsmum says, have a chat with them about the dangers, get them a personal alarm each maybe.
