to think that having sex when pregnant isn't "sick"

So, I'm pregnant and when chatting to some friends (who aren't pregnant) about general stuff the conversation moves to sex, I added something to the conversation and two of them were extremely surprised that we were still having sex.

I explained that just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean that I don't want it (in fact I think my sex drive has increased!) and just because my body shape has changed a bit doesn't mean that DP doesn't still love me and want to be intimate with me.

One was adament that DP was "sick" for wanting sex with someone who was pregnant...

AIBU to think WTF?!

Yes, shagging is apparently one of the best ways to bring it on. Does the same job as a sweep. Also, make sure you orgasm. Apparently it helps.

jazz412 · 22/03/2011 15:42

Will definitely be trying that when the time comes :)

Sex definitely works for bringing on labour (when you're ready, it won't do it earlier in pregnancy). In fact it works so well, that the doctors copy it - one of their common ways to try to induce labour is a prostaglandin pessary - prostaglandins are found naturally in semen, and a pessary is just a less-fun way of deliveriong the same chemicals to the same place!

Melly19MummyToBe · 22/03/2011 15:54

They don't use pessaries anymore, muminscotland, they use a gel in what looks like a tampon appliactor apparantly, my friend was induced 3 weeks ago and have another one due to be induced 8am tomorrow morning! I'm doing a Young Expectant Parents course and have made friends with the other girls on the course. Also the teacher is a MW so she tells us loads of usefull things :o

MmeLindt · 22/03/2011 16:00

No, sorry. Shagging does not bring on labour.

Neither does eating pineapple, climbing stairs, eating melon, cinnamon or any other house remedies.

By the end, I was ready to run upstairs and shag DH while eating a melon cinnamon and pinapple salad if it would bring on labour.

TheAtomicBum · 22/03/2011 16:08

MmeLindt, they said if you're ready. If you're dates are wrong, there's nothing you can do. Anyway, we're not saying, "have a shag, then contractions will start." Nothing's certain. It just helps.

So they enduce labour by soaking a tampon in cum? Or did I just read that wrong Confused.

MmeLindt · 22/03/2011 16:11

I was 2 weeks over. Dates were correct. I had to be induced, there was no shifting her. The fluid was already slightly green, so was definitely "well done".

Have heard that it works from others, but it didn't for me.

TheAtomicBum · 22/03/2011 16:11

Besides, stop telling people that it doesn't help, before my DP hear's you Grin.

TheAtomicBum · 22/03/2011 16:14

Well, no harm tryin Grin.

Anyway, a midwife said it works. So it must. [crosses arms and sulks]. If we want to attempt this regularly at the end, just in case, we will.

TheAtomicBum · 22/03/2011 16:15

BTW, I was only kidding about the sulking. Just in case you thought I was serious.

MmeLindt · 22/03/2011 16:17

Go for it, Atomic. You will probably not feel like it for a while after the birth, so might as well up your quota for the year beforehand.

higgle · 22/03/2011 16:19

....and lots of curry!

exhausted2011 · 22/03/2011 16:23

yanbu
but I think everyone is different about this, and about getting back into it after childbirth but I didn't know that until I found MN!

I am surprised that childless women think that!

TheAtomicBum · 22/03/2011 16:36

Well, I know eating curry in the early stages has some very negative effects on morning sickness. That's been learned from experience, though.
