Is this passive aggressiveness?

I have put on a bit of weight recently. Not fat, just about a stone more than I should be. My mum came to stay at the weekend and kept dropping odd statements: 'Are your scales right? I think they are about 10Ibs under?'. 'I want to lost about 6Ibs for your wedding, everyone wants to lose weight for weddings don't they?'. 'You have to be careful with your weight as you get older don't you'. Or am I just being over-sensitive?

It sounds like she's dropping hints that she's noticed your weight gain. I don't know if that's passive aggressive or not.

Do you want to get down to your normal size for your wedding?

bluerodeo · 22/03/2011 11:25

i don't think that's passive aggresive

I do want to lose weight. I want to lose 3 stone-get back to the very slim size I was 10 years ago so I have alot of work to do. I have told my mum this so she knows I am aware of it. I just don't need her dropping hints. I must have misunderstood what passive aggresiveness means.

I don't think it's passive aggressive.

Maybe she knows you want to lose weight, but doesn't see you doing anything about it..and therefore, she's dropping hints rather than bringing the subject up directly?

TotemPole · 22/03/2011 12:09

I just don't need her dropping hints.

I know, it is irritating, when you're planning on doing XYZ anyway and then someone tells you should do XYZ.

Try to ignore it, and focus on losing the weight.

How long 'til the wedding?

Not PA. Irritating, yes. I reckon she's trying to be supportive in that cack-handed way our mothers often have, by 'subtly reminding' you that you wanted to lose weight.
