As it says.
His friends have it (so he says)
DH and I have read the reviews on Amazon.
We are not prudes .... but .... not sure we want that on the screen in our house.

Are we being unfair?
What is it actually like?

No yanbu....you should have more than qualms. He's too young. Stand firm. his brain is still developing as is his personality. Don't let him play that crap.

MrsJamesMartin · 21/03/2011 21:30

YANBU, it is rated 18, he is 10. Thats it really.

orangehead · 21/03/2011 21:30

No way. Far too young

Acanthus · 21/03/2011 21:31

It is very engrossing and it makes them tense

TalkinPeace2 · 21/03/2011 21:32

The one he wants is (only) a 15 !!
I go sleep now. I'll feel much better if others back me up like you have ;-)

Does anybody have it (for their older DSs) ?

OP posts:
IloveDMs · 21/03/2011 21:32

No YANBU. Our DS is ten and has asked for the CofD Blackops. We said no as it is an eighteen. I don't care what his friends have or don't have. I don't bow to peer pressure.

TheFallenMadonna · 21/03/2011 21:32

I am a prude. And I'm not sure I'd be keen on anyone playing it here.

Aonach · 21/03/2011 21:32

My hubbie plays this and he says there is no eat he'd let a 10 year old play it.

Yanbu

TheFallenMadonna · 21/03/2011 21:33

What is going on with the bolding now?

inchoccyheaven · 21/03/2011 21:33

definitely shouldn't be playing it and I would even speak to the parents of any friends that he says have it and say you don't want him watching or playing it at their house. If that makes you unpopular and he isn't able to go round there because of it then he will have to put up with it. Just have them round to yours playing age appropriate games.
It is hard but we have to be firm as parents and not just go along with things just because others do.

Zettelbox · 21/03/2011 21:33

YANBU. I wouldn't let my kids near it at that age.

Aonach · 21/03/2011 21:33

Sorry eat meant to be way

bringonthegoat · 21/03/2011 21:34

It is a war game - what do you htink it will be like? Confused

XH used to play it but never around DSD or DD - it is way too violent.

Of course he's too young - the parents who buy these games for children are too lazy to say no or too stupid to take on board the desensitizing effect of violence on children - s'only a game innit Hmm

animula · 21/03/2011 21:35

You won't like it. It's not nice. His friends probably do have it - or their elder siblings will, which amounts to the same thing.

It is genuinely a bit yikes for a 10 year old.

FudgeGirl · 21/03/2011 21:36

No way.

stream · 21/03/2011 21:37

It's an 18.

Nuff said.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/03/2011 21:39

YANBU. The age ratings are there for a reason.

exoticfruits · 21/03/2011 21:39

No way! I just tell them I don't care what their friends do.

Would you let him watch "Kill Bill"? Too gory for a 10 year old? So's this - and arguably it's even worse as your actions shape the events of the game, and there are rewards for killing.

pigletmania · 21/03/2011 21:48

Its an 18, your ds is 10 so YABVU if you buy it. His friends parents are breaking the law for allowing their underage children to have it, bad parenting imo. Just because all his friends have it does not make it right.

hephaestus · 21/03/2011 21:50

YABU to buy it for the Wii. Buy the poor kid an Xbox.

ilovemyhens · 21/03/2011 21:53

My ds1 is 13 this year and he doesn't play on any 18 games. He did have a 15 game, but we took it off him and threw it out because it was making him aggressive.

Like some of the others have said, it's just lazy parenting to buy kids games like these. Sod peer pressure and put your foot down. His peers aren't raising him, you are.

maighdlin · 21/03/2011 22:10

COD is not suitable for anyone. its gore and violence and whilst im not uptight or anything i find it fucked up that people enjoy it.

DO NOT BUY IT FOR YOUR DS. if he moans and groans "oh everyone has it" tell him tough shit. if you want further info, have a look at some youtube videos.

(Sorry am very anti-violent video games esp, for kids. buy him Herbies Epic Yarn its a great game.)

HarlotOTara · 21/03/2011 22:15

Don't buy it. I work with challenging teens, all the boys I see watch it and are addicted, play for hours at a time and consequently don't get enough sleep which doesn't help behaviour at school. I find it very concerning.
