I hate it when you have, say, a bit of great news and excitedly tell someone, only for them to tell you you've already said.

Or worse, when you tell someone and they're all suprised and excited for you, and you remember later you'd already told them and they'd been pretending to save you the embarrassment Blush

Obviously some general advice on MN on things like physical abuse are pretty universal, and it can be helpful to post something that's happened to you lots of times if it helped an OP out of a difficult situation.

But I saw an OP a bit back being told by a poster that she (the OP) had asked a similar kind of question about 4 years previously Shock

The OP was a bit taken aback, but the other person had some kind of freaky photographic memory rather than being a rampant stalker.

Even though most posters don't notice MN names (which I don't believe Grin) and there are squillions of us on here (disregarding the MNHQ personas Wink), it's not the first time I've seen somebody being picked up for repeating themselves.

So how many times can you post the same experience/opinion before you're considered banging on?

Well Zig, I have to say my first reaction to your thread title was but I was a frightful bore long before I came onto MN!

I was quite smug, too. For a moment.

AgentZigzag · 21/03/2011 21:39

I think some people don't notice carmina, but they don't spend enough time on here, obviously.

But other people do, and can recount it to the last emoticon

PaperView · 21/03/2011 21:40

I have a freaky memory for some posts.

CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 21:40

LRD, I know you! You were marrying the Russian guy? Was that you? And some bank teller was mean to you once?

I do not have a photographic memory, so apols if not. Blush

AgentZigzag · 21/03/2011 21:41

And I bet 'they' remember without any help of visual aids like spreadsheets LeQ

carminaburana · 21/03/2011 21:41

I am sweet & innocent. I post, read a few replies, forget, argue a bit maybe, forget again, give up, totally forget who I've spoken to. ( apart from one or two who I admire from afar, but rarely talk to)

  • & I've never heard of your lost BMW, ( you'll have to fill me in one night )
JaneS · 21/03/2011 21:44

Yep, that's me cheerful. And I know your name, but can't remember details ... which seems to be the case with most people for me.

AgentZigzag · 21/03/2011 21:47

I think she's one of those Americans RedDragon

Bumperlicioso · 21/03/2011 21:47

I once wrote a post venting against the phrase 'pregnancy is not an illness' which was met with great acclaim, applause and a nomination for quote of the week. I have since c&ped that same post at least once to try and recapture the feeling of adoration Grin

CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 21:47

I don't remember everyone, just if it's relevant. I remember the wedding thing because my husband was crap at planning ours, and the bank teller thing because I was already in a bad mood that day and then your post made me want to find the teller and kick her in the shin. :)

CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 21:48

Yup, regular All-American girl, me. :)

Oblomov · 21/03/2011 21:51

I bore myself silly. F**k knows what I do to your braincells. But isn't that what MN is for ?
Not that anyone ever remembers my name. But if they did they would think, oh yeah isn't that obs, that boring twat who always harps on about :

this
that
this
that
etc
etc

melezka · 21/03/2011 21:52

Reading this thread has made me realise that part of me assumes nobody will notice/remember anything I say. The idea of spreadsheets has made my tummy flip a bit.

Meanwhile I think I said anything interesting I had to say in the first 2 weeks after joining and I do actually lurk more and more instead of posting because of that...

carminaburana · 21/03/2011 21:53

'your post was wonderful daaahlin, truely wonderful' >

AgentZigzag · 21/03/2011 21:54

I can't remember what you've said, but I recognise your name Oblomov.

Not sure whether that's an insult or not Grin

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 21:55

I recognize your name too, because I always try to pronounce it. :)

AgentZigzag · 21/03/2011 21:56

I do too CheerfulLovelyAmericanGal, and get an obelisk shape in my head.

annabelflowers · 21/03/2011 22:00

I have a terrible habit in RL and MN to relate to what people are saying by providing an anecdote of my own.

i am often told in RL how boring it is, and sometimes i re-read my posts and think [cringe] I am being boring.

It is only me trying to empathise, not overtake, but i can see how it is interpreted.

Taken as compliment thank you. I would prefer it that way. I am so rubbish at names. I'm on a thread, and somone posts something, and then FINALLY, I remember, 'oh yeah, i rememebr you, recognise your name, you are f**k funny or extremely witty, or are so intelligent , your 6 word captions are brilliant.

A week later, I can't even remember who I like !! Intensely irritating.

CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 23:16

I'm exactly the same Annabel ! I always do that.

AnnieLobeseder · 21/03/2011 23:24

I have a couple of pet topics that I like to rant about periodically, and no-one has pulled me up for repeating myself yet. Bound to happen one day though.

I did have an odd experience a couple of months back, when I posted about a conversation I'd had with a racist person, and someone said I was seeing racism where there wasn't any as usual. I'm very sure it was my first ever post about racism! Confused

Morloth · 21/03/2011 23:25

LOL StewiesGriffinsMum, I still remember that thread where you stated I AM A CANADIAN at that daft bint who was trying move to Canada and thought she knew everything about anything about the place and was trying to tell you how wrong you were.

I remember people's user names and previous posts to some extent, you do build a 'profile' for people on here.

CointreauVersial · 21/03/2011 23:28

Maryz - don't stop posting the teenage stuff. I actually PRINTED OUT one of your posts and stuck it to the fridge - basic rules for dealing with teenagers, I think. You're my guru!

CointreauVersial · 21/03/2011 23:29

But enough with the Wembley mooncup and the lost BMW....Grin
