You know that plastic thing that says do not remove if you want to return found in the gusset of swim suits?

I bought a swimsuit for my 8 week old from mothercare, and it had one!

Exactly what is it protecting the gusset from? Babies wear nappies. Babies don't have to worry about periods or discharge so surely the gusset of a swim suit is no different from any other item of baby clothes?

My DS can poo completely deadpan - the only clue is the smell...

DD did poo in her swim nappy once - not a fun changing experience but better than poo in the pool (the pool has to be shut to all users until they can carry out some sort of cleaning procedure which can take quite along while if the poo has 'melted' into the water).

Habbibu · 20/03/2011 21:24

No, my dcs very rarely did/do the red face. ds in particular is a stealth shitter, esp in the bath, and utterly, utterly unpredictable. And yy, have had crap in swim nappies. It's not pleasant to deal with...

Grumpla · 20/03/2011 21:25

If your baby shits in the pool they are meant to evacuate pool and run a full filtration cycle - which can take about 12 hours depending on water volume.

This happened at one of my DS's baby swim lessons when they were teeny, I was bloody glad it was not him who was responsible!
DS has pooed in a swim nappy several times. When he was still doing runny poos I used a disposable swim nappy (although I wash and reuse them) underneath a neoprene one. No chance of anything floating out of that!

Habbibu · 20/03/2011 21:26

yy to neoprene nappy. Hardcore.

RitaMorgan · 20/03/2011 21:27

Only a red face if he's a bit constipated - normal pooing is silent!

VajazzHands · 20/03/2011 21:29

no strandedpolarbear just a normal bathingsuit

as seen here now on 3 everyone saw awwwwwww

My mindees regularly poo in their swim nappies, if its not one of them it another.

(And your right, they dont hold it all, we have cleared the pool on more than one occasion [sigh], surprised they still let us in)

ivykaty44 · 20/03/2011 21:49

i am glad it wasn't like this when mine where little and we went to baby in the pool morning with about 10 mums and babies playing in the pool. Not one of them pooed ever week after week.

Not one of these babies had a nappy on in the pool - they all had bare bottoms under their swimsuits.

Where did you all get your pooing babies from Grin

Habbibu · 20/03/2011 21:52

What do you mean, it wasn't like this? Do you think babies who poo randomly and without warning are some new-fangled invention? Presumably people with pooing babies didn't take them swimming....

VajazzHands · 20/03/2011 21:53

pooing baby didn't exist in the 90's Grin

ivykaty44 · 20/03/2011 21:56

well possibly all the parents in the pool at the same time where holding their babies bottoms - I don't know..? Grin but they never pooed - and neither did mine and I don't know why, other than she had already pooed in the morning.

yet you all seem to have these babies that as soon as you get a swim nappy on them they poo all over the place Grin

I blame the swim nappies - I think it encourages babies to poo Wink

Habbibu · 20/03/2011 21:57

Tell that to ds in the bath.

Carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2011 22:00

I suspect ds pooed out of terror when he was in the pool. We postponed swimming for a few months and then he was quite happy Grin

DancingThroughLife · 20/03/2011 22:01

Most of the time DD doesn't poo in her swim nappy, but you know when she does do it! Thank god for the neoprene one on top, it's saved us some embarrassment. And pool cleaning bills [phew] Grin

VajazzHands · 20/03/2011 22:02

From what I know about shit in pools Hmm a turd if "ignored" by the life guard for a few minutes will actually disolve in the chlorine.

So my suspician is being very young babies their poos were probably instantly vaporised as they came out and didn't have the nappy to block their progress.

I will never swim in a public pool ever again

I can't believe the number of mums at my baby swim class who put them in the swim nappy before they leave the house. Yes they do contain poo (and yes I have a new fangled baby and it did work) but not the liquid.

Surely you're asking for trouble? Do they not realise how they work?

Have to wear swim nappies but my DD is the only child only wearing a swim nappy as I can't be arsed don't feel the need to buy a costume. Everyone else thinks she's a boy clearly because she's showing her nipples Confused

Pandamoanium · 20/03/2011 22:04

There were no such things as swim nappies when our DSs were babies - so we took them swimming in their tiny trunks anyway. Public swimming pools were fine with that as no-one had heard of anything different and my boys never pooed whilst in the water.

Do you think anyone from the olden days is actually going to own up to their baby pooing in the pool?

VajazzHands · 20/03/2011 22:11

No. Babies were better behaved and only pooed according to their schedule

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 20/03/2011 22:12

If chlorine dissolves poo so quickly that you don't even see the poo - then what does it doe to other parts of your body - yikes

ivykaty44 · 20/03/2011 22:13

olden days - dd1 is only 18 and will love to know she swam as a baby in the olden days Grin

Habbibu · 20/03/2011 22:15

I'm a child of the 70's. If going back in time makes babies easier, was I damn near perfect? And should I take injunctions out against putative future grandchildren just in case?

nbee84 · 20/03/2011 22:18

Has anyone taken a child in the pool in a normal nappy?

I did a few weeks ago as I'd forgotten ot pick up a swim nappy and the only money I had on me was the £ for the locker.

They swell up to about 10 times their normal size and act like a float holding their bum in the air Grin
