DS is 22 months old. He just counted to 5 without any help/encouragement.
I think that's really smart for his age
DH thinks that's perfectly normal age to be counting

Do I contact Mensa Grin

I think it's good if he's actually counting rather than just parroting- very good in fact.

My DD (23mo) can recognise number 1-9, but cannot count. no idea how she has done this.

DS can't recognise the numbers only count them. I'm going to buy him a number jigsaw this weekend though to start working on that he loves the wooden jigsaw type.

I was reading by about that age.

Would say it's normal for kids to be counting by that age and understanding the concept of numbers / group sizes / this amount of that.

You're not unreasonable to be bursting with pride though, especially if it's the first time he's done it.

My DD can spell at 2... A, E, I, O, U, Apple... A, E, I, O, U, Banana! and it just goes on like that. Grin

I would be impressed if DD counted though. I think she associates counting with the naughty spot though. Mummy: "Naughty spot in the count of three, one, two..." Grin

Yanbu!

Can't remember what my dc could do at that age, but I am sure whatever they did I considered it to be exceptionally clever Grin

Oh COURSE he is a genius! That is lovely. :)

reminds me when my DS was 8 months and gabbling. My Mother (a very doting grandmother) gasped and said 'Look! He's speaking Russian'

'da da da da da da da da ' !!!

Isn't just wonderful watching them learn and develop. I so wish for a DC2 so we can do it again.
