I am a bit Hmm and Confused

Does this kind of miss the point? Or am I over thinking?

DD has gone in a red leotard, cardigan and socks.

DS had major strop that his red t shirt didn't suit him, his red socks were itchy, etc etc. So got changed into blue trackie bottoms and black t shirt, both of which have a teeny tiny bit of red on here and there. I didn't think it was worth arguing over, he still makes a donation.

I did buy DS something new when it was 'wear yellow for jaundiced children day' (yes really) as he had nothing yellow. It was from Oxfam Smile

Ds2 had to dress up as something funny. I sent him in his viking helmet, on account of he likes wearing it.

nethunsreject · 18/03/2011 10:59

Not sure what they bought. It was Primark, which is a whole other thread, lol!

Wild THings - that was kind of my first reaction, yes. Though I guess if it is going to be used again then it isn't any different to buying new stuff in general? Hmm, I dunno.

Lol.

But i didn't deduct the outfit cost out of the donation....

DONATE its the key word i could of sent him in uniform and refused to donate as i didnt choose the charity. I could of brought the outfit and sent him in that and not paid as it only asked for donations not demanded them.

Cheer up its just some clothes ffs.

DaisyDaresYOU · 18/03/2011 11:12

Pjs and funny hair here.Sprayed ds hair red and made a little mohikan in his hair.I'm just hoping it will wash out as he has light coloured hair

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 18/03/2011 11:18

Oh fuck, I sent dd to school wearing black skinny jeans and a black hoody with silver stars on. Didn't even bloody occur to me

DS is in pyjamas Hmm

mmsmum · 18/03/2011 12:20

I thought there was going to be an 'and' and something juicy was coming, I'm disappointed. But that's it, that's your op.

Pterosaur · 18/03/2011 12:33

I've just found DD's donation sitting on the bottom stair. There'll have been tears....

eitherwhichway · 18/03/2011 12:38

Surely if you have to go out and buy a whole outfit to fit in with a fundraising event, the charity will lose out?

Money is very tight in our house and I would not be happy at having to spend £20 per child (as paid out by previous poster) and then make a donation on top.
That would be £60 plus donations.
I would rather make a larger donation affordable to us and have dcs allowed to go in whatever colour they choose rather than have to buy new clothes in a particular colour and have to give a smaller donation.

Yes, they will get wear out of an extra top/pair of trousers but they don't need extra clothes whereas the charity could do with the cash iyswim?

This reminds me of this xkcd -

Meglet · 18/03/2011 12:41

yanbu.

My dc's didn't really have anything red and I would rather give cash to charity than purchase something new and have it cluttering up the house (they have enough clothes at the moment). They had red noses which they bit in half within seconds Hmm.

I think I'm probably a boring old fart though.

Pancakeflipper · 18/03/2011 12:43

Jaundice Day?

Yellow.

Brilliant. I shall smile at the thought of my own expression receiving that school letter request.

It was wear red at DS school. They are also spraying hair red. So if their top wasn't red at the start of the day... It will be by the end. I am a killjoy - I didn't give DS enough money for that.

babyapplejack · 18/03/2011 12:44

I love red and DS doesn't have many clothes, but the few he does have are mostly red Blush. Red nose day was no problem for us Grin.

cheesesarnie · 18/03/2011 12:45

dd has gone in pjs
we made ds1's out fit-hes gone as a giant red nose
and ds2 boorowed a monster outfit from a friend.

yabu-does it matter.the childs having fun, learing about red nose day, theyre raising money.who cares.

i was aksed last night if i would face paint at 7am this morning(whilst getting 3dc reading for school),i said donate £5 to comic relief and i'll think about it.the parents werent impressed and changed there mind!Grin

DaisyDaresYOU · 18/03/2011 12:48

I forgot ds donation aswell.I had it in my jeans pocket. He did have his red nose though so I have donated something.I'll have to give it to teacher later with a red face lol

MrsDaffodill · 18/03/2011 12:56

Am sure other school parents think I bought special outfits.

It was "creative and crazy red" at ours. They both have new looking, and crazy, costumes. However, I am queen of the charity shop and they are actually existing costumes from our dress-up box which cost £1 and £2 respectively. They're thrilled to give them an outing at school.

I did buy a pair of £7 H&M trousers. But H&M trousers are the ones that fit DS the best (other shop's ones don't suit his shape) and he adores bright colours and especially red, so I probably would have bought them anyway as I was in there looking for trousers as he's just shot up.

Have sent them with their £1, they're happy and having a good time, don't think any of it matters too much so I am opting for YABU.

Our school, by the way, has a red uniform anyway and they made it very, very clear the whole thing was optional.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 18/03/2011 13:10

It was wear your PJs to nursery today.

Those of you with 3 year olds will understand the difficulites of trying to explain to a 3 year old that he will be wearing his PJs in the day.

Hersetta · 18/03/2011 13:36

At DD's nursery school session they had a 'crazy dress' day.

I let DD choose her outfit - she went as snow white (apparantly DH said there were 3 other snow whites in her class as well. Most of the other wore PJ's.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 18/03/2011 13:44

Oh no... DD could only find a red top.

But after reading this I have realised her all-in-one oversized babygro pyjama suit is, erm, red Blush and would have been perfect...

Pagwatch · 18/03/2011 13:48

I got ds2 one of the lovely vivienne westwood t-shirts. But he couldn't go to school today. And it was raining when he wore it to go out so he had his sweatshirt on.

All rather wasted. But he was happy.

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 18/03/2011 13:56

it appeared to be a fairly random dressing up day for littlemad's school.

He went as heatblast from Ben10 - in a bought costume, he did ask me at 6.15am to make him a Spidermonkey costume (I did a four arms at 35 minutes notice about a month ago so he clearly thinks I'm some sort of costume witch able to magic up random stuff at no notice) we had a 'discussion' and he went as heatblast.

All the other children were in PJ's and slippers. littlemad didn't even notice.

He's going to 'act out Ben10' for the talent show as well.

He is only 4 and 11 months.....

whitemonkey · 18/03/2011 14:28

YANBU. I thought the same thing this morning when i saw children arriving in wigs which I know were new and will probably never be worn again. When the idea is to send as much money to places where they havent enough money for food, let alone crazy wigs it seemed a bit daft.

My kids improvised with stuff they already had and were happy.

Mind you i am hormonal and grumpy so that might be making me slightly self righteous!

Bogeyface · 18/03/2011 14:33

You see this is when I love our school. We had Mad Hair for 50p, wear your Pyjamas for 50p or come as you please for 50p!

The girls tripped off in their pjs with their scary hair and a £1 each, job done :o
