DD has a corker of a cold, which means it will go through the whole house soon.

i asked DS, 19 to nip to pharmacy to stock up on cold remedies as we all like to take different things when ill, i like day nurse, DD likes sudafed, etc etc

the bloody pharmacy wouldnt sell him more than ONE frigging thing.
is it unreasonable to expect to be treated like a sane responsible adult, read the labels and know not to mix the meds? can i not be trusted now with sudafed AND shock horror day nurse? ffs Angry

im 39. i have a responsible job and 2 children and a DH who so far i have managed not to kill when they have a common cold by overdosing them on anything.

im sick of the nanny sodding state.

or dear customer use your mind and don't ask pharmacist to breach guidelines.go purchase a few items elsewhere.and stock up.like everyone else does

Absolutely ScottishMummy :)

The point is that (even if you do think that the laws brought in to protect people are silly and easy to get round) YABVU to expect the pharmacist to break the law and risk losing his/her registration.

I do agree that there are some pharmacists that break the law and sell multiple packs when it makes sense but they are in the minority and (incase I've not stressed it enough!) they are breaking the law!!

I also agree that it would be great if pharmacists were allowed to use their professional judgement in these matters but alas that is not the case.

pharmacist is responsible for dispensing otc meds and prescriptions accurately.and even if gp makes mistake on prescription pharmacist expected to check prior to dispensing and if necessary challenge or query incorrect repeat prescriptions with prescriber. pharmacist has duty of care to pt and registration to maintain

I know that it doesn't always seem logical to the outsider, but reducing accessability to a way of killing yourself does genuinely save lives. There is an article about paracetamol here. For those who are interested, there is a page about coal gas here. Basically, we used to use coal gas in our houses that had a high level of poisonous carbon monoxide. Whih is why you used to be able to "put your head in the oven". When we switched to Narth Sea gas without the carbon monoxide, suicide numbers fell, particularly in women. They didn't feel any better, but they couldn't just gas themselves in a moment of crisis.

It's also one of the reasons why men in rural areas are at risk of suicide - agriculture provides too many convenient ways of killing yourself. :(

Just in case there's any confusion, I was quoting the song Mr Phamacist btw Grin

Although I agree it can be a PITA, the guidelines are there for a reason - a good one it appears.

scottishmummy · 18/03/2011 10:44

there is a pharamacy song?lol didnt know that.

Get over it op. Pharmacists aren't allowed to sell certain items together. It's against regulations.

The regulations aren't put in place just to annoy people there are health and safety reasons for them.

Perhaps you should show the pharmacists a bit more respect.

nethunsreject · 18/03/2011 10:51

Yanbu.

He should have risked a fine and his registration just to do what you wanted.

Bastard.

scottishmummy · 18/03/2011 10:53

thatsenough · 18/03/2011 11:02

YABU - Due to MHRA guidelines my company has a very strict one decongestant product per patient policy.

ratspeaker · 18/03/2011 11:56

Did you know you cant buy Sudafed in Japan
Its illegal to take it or Vicks inhaler into the country

OP complain to your MP not the pharmacist, who doesnt want to break the law, loose their job or get disbarred as you want more than the permitted amount of meds

Boots do a day/night flu remedy. Caffeine, Phenylephedrine and Paracetemol for the day and minus the caffiene at night.

Really recommend it.
