to consider calling the police about my drink driving neighbour

i have posted on here before aout my neighbour. he has a drink problem and drinks at least a bottle of bells a day. i have tried to help him but as he has no intention of helping himself i am at a loss.
yesterday i was outside the front door of our appartments and he came stumbling out. he tripped over his own feet and fell flat on his face. it took him a while to pick him self up and when he did he stumbled down the steps and into his car. he drove to the local shops and bought another ottle of bells.

i feel that i should have called the police and repoerted him but i didnt. he does this daily.

you are just as responsible if someone gets killed while you are turning a blind eye

FabbyChic · 17/03/2011 11:40

Yes call the police when you next see him get in his car, take down the licence plate and give that to them over the phone too.

you can actually ring your local police station and report it now, even though he is not out and about at the moment

they will log it and goes out to shifts for the rest of the day

i once rang every day from about 70 miles away until someone was picked up - had no idea if they were out and about but it worked eventually

plopplopquack · 17/03/2011 11:46

I think you should call them and tell them he does this every day. Don't suppose he goes at the same time every day does he? That would make things simpler.

limpingbint · 17/03/2011 11:48

I am not ever the sort of person who would rass someone to the rozzers for anything - but this is the exception

I would report this person without a second thought - if anything happened you would never ever forgive yourself

pud1 · 17/03/2011 11:48

he doesnt go at the same time and he only goes to the local shops for more bells. he is never out for more than 10 mins so i think the chances of him being caught are slim unless i call when he goes

Report him. I wouldn't hesitate.

Punkatheart · 17/03/2011 11:51

They will observe him with a plain clothes unit. You don't need to wait until he goes out. If he has been drinking and he even sits in the car - he is guilty.

what limpingbint said. I was very lucky to step out of my concertina'd car with only cuts and bruises after being hit by a drunk driver. He is a danger to himself and others

If you report it now so they know that this is happening they will be more likely to up local patrols potentially.

It also means that when you see him do this next, you will be able to ring up and tell them that he is about to drive off and they will have all the notes to hand, you won't have to start giving details from the beginning meaning they can get on to it more quickly.

Do you know which shop he tends to go to to get his bells? Do you know the shop keepers in there - they might be able to spot him coming too and alert the police to be outside to help catch him when he gets back into his car.

as others have said - if you saw him waving a gun around you wouldn't hesitate to call the police and the chance of him killing or injuring somebody that you know is much higher if he is a regular drunk driver in your neighbourhood Sad
