For my friend to send her D/V dd to pre school tomorrow

My friend rang me and told me that her dd has been sick a few times today, and that she has now stopped. My friend took her dd to the doctor who said it was ok for her dd to go back to preschool tomorrow if she has stopped providing its been 24 since she last been sick.

I disagreed with her saying that it should be 3 days since she last stopped being sick, I used to work in a day centre at it used to be 3 days since they stopped being sick not 24 hours. My dd has a birthday party on Saturday and I would hate her and her friends not to come because this mum sent her child to nursery when she should not have done.

Aam I right!

48 hrs here. YANBU. Someone I know sent her son back after less than that and half the class were down with it within the week. That's not to say they couldn't have got it from somewhere else but it does look connected to me.

48 hours here too.

48 hours at my dd's school too.

However, if you are sure your friend is telling the truth, then perhaps she and the GP know something that you don't. Perhaps she has had a reaction to medication or has been sick for some other reason other than a "bug". If this was the case then she may well be fine to go back tomorrow (as the GP advised) :)

Some children vomit with a bad cough but they are not ill with a sickness and diarrhoea bug and may be well enough to return the next day.

24 hours at DS's nursery. YABU

pigletmania · 16/03/2011 22:04

Well she stopped being sick in the this afternoon 16th March, the dd goes to nursery in the following afternoon so its 24 hours, isent it not! A full three days would be better not just 24 hours.

a full 3 days isn't necessary though. why do it if it isn't necessary? the GP has told her 24 hours.

48 hours since the last time the child was sick in Warwickshire and Worcestershire

Your friend should not take her dd to pre-school she IBU

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 16/03/2011 22:18

3 is over the top 48 hours is good enough for the nhs and that's what I do.

(pre-school rules) I haven't investigated the school policy I just do the same.

FWIW dd has been sick over 24hrs apart (in the same illness period but never 48hrs)

pigletmania · 16/03/2011 22:20

The rules of the nursery are 48 hours so she should not send her dd in

Our school is 48 hours. I would be raging if I knew someone sent their child to school knowing they had D and V and didn't stick to the rules.

My little boy often ends up in hospital if he gets a D&V bug so keeping ill children at home is a huge help to me! Can't wrap him in a bubble, so have to rely on sensible parents to keep him reasonably safe!

Summerbird73 · 17/03/2011 09:05

ok OP well YABU and YANBU

YANBU if the preschool policy is 48 hours then she should not take her DD in until 48 hours after being sick

YABU because you are trying to impose your own rules on her by saying she should wait 3 days - that is none of your business - if the rule is 48 hours then that is what she should do - not listen to you dictating to her! Hmm

and i believe she took DD to the GP as my GP would also have said 24 hours - as some nurseries do have that policy (like my DS's)
