to feel offended by this

Parked outside my house and as baby was sleeping in the back decided to have a quick look at newspaper before going inside (he always wakes up when I move the carseat..) A crocodile of little kids from the primary school nearby were walking along the road with some teachers/parents off on a trip I guess and one of the adults turned round after theyd passed me and took a flash photo of me in my car!

AIBU to feel a bit annoyed about this?

"Offended"? Really?? How did this cause offence?

"Confused", I would understand. "Amused"/"Bemused" etc etc.

But not "offended", surely?? Then again, I am forgetting the Mumsnet's First Commandment - Thou Shalt Not Cause Any Offence, Whatsover, To Anyone, Ever.

I think its a bit over zealous but not that weird.... consider it from the other point of view. You're a teacher walking down the road with lots of small children. you probably live in the local area. you pass a car and notice someone is sitting behind the wheel apparently doing nothing (reading the paper). which you could easily do inside if you had a house here. i mean, who would read their paper in the car? (you probably haven't seen the baby seat though!)

so you start worrying that maybe its someone up to no good - like stalking out a potential robbery site, or hanging round to snatch small children etc.

you're of nervous disposition and decide to get a photo "just in case" you're watching crimewatch later in the week and there's a story about a terrible granny mugging in the local area.

that's my guess anyway! :)

Thanks for your responses. Oftenpurple thats probably right.

Bemused is a good word Major. Anyway it WAS odd. Should probably have posted this as WWYD rather than AIBU.

I shall give it no more thought.

I have done this as part of language development. We would use photos of local area and encourage the children to, for example, project what they thought the lady in the car was doing.Try to elicit ideas such as, she was locked out, or she was waiting for DH or more creative such as she was a master thief and was casing the joint. You get the idea?
Just a thought.

I agree with oftenpurple. They probably thought "How odd, why is s/he sitting in their car, pretending to read a newspaper and looking at our kids?"

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/03/2011 15:26

OP, are you a celebrity?

MaisyMooCow · 16/03/2011 16:07

Do you look like a famous person?
