Channel 4 TV 10pm last night.

I like Lily Allen as a pop singer. She seems bona fide bolshi. (And had had cute rhyming hits)

But the business thing last night struck me as Lily out of her depth.

she may be kidding us with 2 episodes to go. Time will tell.

Oh yes, because normal people can afford Mary P can't they?

I wanted to like Lily, really I did...........

pigletmania · 16/03/2011 19:25

Lilly Allen is a crap business woman, so she thinks that someone will pay £300 to hire a crusty old 70's designer dress when you can buy one new for the same price.

pigletmania · 16/03/2011 19:25

The hire prices are as much as you would buy a new designer dress.

Oh her manical cackling after each and every sentence is so telling.... look at ME, arent I funny, fabulous and so LOUDLY FUNNY, can we talk about ME now, has anyone mentioned ME yet, oh, here I am googling myself when really Im so bored of fame........ oh please fuck off love.

stainesmassif · 16/03/2011 19:44

i like her. and i think gabby might do too, hence the slippage to 'normal' posting style. gabby?

Jellykat · 16/03/2011 20:14

I like her too, she drinks in my brothers' local when she stays at her dads' and she's alright apparently.

I think it's fine for her to admit to not knowing how much 'normal' girls her age, pay for things..her first number 1 was 5 years ago when she was 21,and she was being honest, not boastful IMO.

Plus she'd explained how she didn't want the shop to revolve purely around her name, and that was what the focus group immediately pounced on, that's why she walked out.

Strange how many MNers offered their sympathies and said they liked her, when she had her 2nd MC not long ago..but now seem to dislike her.Hmm

southeastastra · 16/03/2011 20:17

fgs we can be sympathetic to her circumstances and critique her programme - she didn't have to make it did she

robotlollypopman · 16/03/2011 20:44

YABU. You said she is a great pop singer. What business is better than SHOW business? And yes, she has fantastic boobs.

jaggythistle · 16/03/2011 21:07

YABU to think she is a great pop singer. utter drivel IMO.

no idea about the rest of it.

GabbyLoggon · 17/03/2011 13:37

Mistress...I thought that part of the debate was Trivia Ltd. (Or fairly unlimited to be frank)

I was disappointed not to see more of Lady Allens O2 performance.

Gaston, People are usually disappointed with editing on TV docs. (You have to be really big to get edit control..The Queen, I suppose.)

I repeat what I said at the start. Ch4 TV will probably make the series work in the end. (Its all in the can)

Ditto..the cockney cook and the teaching malarky series. Even more blatant.

Lol at EricNorthansMistress.

Loads of 'slebs think they can branch out from whatever area they started in, often without having a clue how the new industry works or thinking it through properly in the same way that lots of non 'slebs think it would be a piece of piss to run a cake shop/bakery/deli etc. Running a small business is never easy.

Why C4 thinks we need to know about Lily's escapades is totally beyond me.

GabbyLoggon · 17/03/2011 13:57

Well, honeybee.

We have a rabid Fame Culture. Most of did not ask for it.

The papers would say "stars sell papers" TV would say "stars pull an audience"

I dont always believe what they say.

As for Lily Allen ...she seems to have a genuine bolshi outlook on life. (Maybe inherited from her actor dad.) She has made it pay.

The TV series may be largely just a stunt. (some of the tv companies now have to fill their screens 24/7)
I take your point, honey, business is not easy. Iwould never have even tried it it. It seems to me little shops are being squeezed out by the super chains.

A docu on Lily is what I would expect from BBC3 not C4. I sympathise with her on a human level but i have sod all interest in her career to be honest.

timmyshine · 17/03/2011 14:29

Well, Honeybee, you be at odds with our fame culture; and so am I really. Its Disneyesqe.
Little Clive James was right. "Leave fame to those who really need it."
