venue trying to increase charges for a function on Saturday!!!!! Shall I tell them to stick it?

I'm having aprty on Saturday night and today I have had an e-mail telling me that I must have a dance floor at a cost of £250!

I'm really unsure how to handle this as I've only paid a deposit on the venue. I have been dealing with the caterer who now says he'll have to hand it over to the owner of which I have no name or contact details.

Should I find somewhere else and just tell them to stick it? Sad

I would ring them and speak to them. It does sound outrageous, but it may be a misunderstanding.

I've tried calling and e-mailing but can't get through! When we met at the venue the bloke said a dancefloor was available but he didn't say it was a condition of the contract and there is nothing in the T&C's

Do you have a contract? It sounds rather dodgy - no contact details for owner and last minute increases. If you haven't suddenly mentioned you'll be having q DJ or something I'd be very concerned about the last minute nature of the demand.

But at the same time can you move it this close to the date?

X-post. I see you have a contract. I would email them back and say "no thanks. I like the contract we have already signed thanks. " and see how they respond.

I don't even know if I can move it - I'd have to phone around a few places and see if anywhere was available - yes it is THIS SATURDAY!!!!

There is no contract, I haven't signed any paperwork. I told them right from the off that I was having a band playing hence the mention of the dancefloor before.

The T&C's are on the website and they e-mailed them to me when I paid the deposit. I think the owner is out of the country but I'm not sure.

Ouch. I would definitely start calling round. But you should also stick to your guns with this place and see if they'll give. Down load the terms and conditions off their website now and save or make a note of any communication you've had so far. I can't see them being able to find anyone else to hire to at this late notice and they'd owe you your deposit back too so they have good reason to give in.
