I just received the email saying I have got throught to the Auditions in April!
Its so exciting, I love to sing, used to be in a band and never had the guts to audition before...
However, this is right around the time I should be focussing on my dissertation/exams and you have to get there at 8am - probably before apparantly people queue all night... And it would mean a whole weekend lost...
Even if I did get through the next round would be in the middle of exams, so I guess I know that I shouldnt even entertai the possibility.
But im just so excited they like my video! Anyone out there been through this experience, it would be helpful to be told the realities of the day I suppose - it may be rubbish and not worth it but Im scared to have a constant 'what if' in the back of my head....

Go for it.. one weekend trying to get your dream is worth a bit of extra studying before and after. And well done for getting this far! :)

JBellingham · 15/03/2011 23:51

Yeah definitely worth fecking up your degree for! Go for it!

pjmama · 15/03/2011 23:53

If you don't give it a shot, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. It's the missed opportunities that gnaw away at you in the long run. Do it!

BitOfFun · 15/03/2011 23:54

Can you take some reading with you for the ginormous queue?

JBellingham · 15/03/2011 23:54

Or maybe they again next year when you have a degree. Auditioning for morons never goes out of fashion.

ChaosTech · 15/03/2011 23:58

Have you got your special story planned?

SeeJaneKick · 16/03/2011 00:09

You have to go. I haven'tbeen there but can offer eneral advice re auditions in general...especially cattle call type ones.

Don't make a "friend" who saps all your energy and whom you will never see again...some people just go on and on and make you nervous and unable to concentrate.

Be polite to others but if you are serious, then focus on yourself and remaining calm. Remember to breathe and do a warm up before you go in.

ShowyTech · 16/03/2011 00:10

You'll need to start working on producing a single tear while sincerely intoning 'I'm so sorry, I promised myself I wouldn't cry. It's just all I've ever wanted. I only wish [insert dead pet or similar here] was here to see it'.

And when did you first start singing? 2? 3? Or did you burst forth from your mother singing Ave Maria? You need to be clear on these things now.

I think wannabe auditioned didn't she?

pinkstinks · 16/03/2011 00:11

hahah! Oh no, I dont have a specific sob story!
I could use the enormous queue for my research gathering purposes of my dissertation....
I think from the tone of my OP I know I won't be going, which is a shame, but not the end of the world!
I'd rather get through the final few months, which are stressful enough without adding to it!

I worked with a guy who got through to the 'Judge's Houses' stage a few years back.

And continued to work with him for some years after that. Luckily, he is a resilient bloke who had more strings to his bow. Employers were pleased to let him have time off to try his luck, and keep his job open for if/when it didn't work out for him.

Even the 'successful' ones are never normally heard of again.

And next year will be time enough, when you have that degree!
