My sister in law is in Tokyo, I need to get her a flight from there to here but the airlines want about £3000 for a flight and the UK travel agency i spoke to said they can't get cheaper flights as it isn't leaving from the UK, any ideas?!

YANBU but I imagine flights are massively over subscribed at the moment. Can she travel further south by train or hire a car and try a different airport.

TidyDancer · 15/03/2011 18:48

Can you get her out of Tokyo to anywhere cheaply and then get a UK flight from wherever she lands to here?

jenga079 · 15/03/2011 18:50

Shorter flight to Singapore / Hong Kong / somewhere a bit closer to Tokyo and then a flight from there to here? Looking on the timetables on the Tokyo airport website should give you an idea of which airlines fly where and give you a starting point.

I'm not surprised they're so expensive to be honest. Terrible, frustrating, but not surprising.

Good luck Smile

tbh if i were in her shoes i would stick the 3 grand on a credit card if at all possible, and get the hell out. I hope she is ok.

Check out round the world tickets, they can work out cheaper. I don't know if this is the case from Japan currently.

LisaD1 · 15/03/2011 18:53

You can get a cheaper flight by booking a return date too.

Comes in around £2,000 with BA.

crazygracieuk · 15/03/2011 19:50

Do you only need a one way ticket?

I ask because it's often cheaper to book a return flight and simply not go on the return leg.

Garcia10 · 15/03/2011 20:12

Try travelsupermarket.com.

If you book a dummy return there are flights available at just over £1000.

TheDogsBollocks · 17/03/2011 07:32

did your sis in law manage to get a flight out?

springydaffs · 17/03/2011 07:47

You'd think it was a humanitarian issue and that flights would be laid on for all concerned, not charged through the nose Angry
