to think your kids are fat! (or giants)

Have just been on the Boden site, looking at clothes for my dd and reading the reviews of various items. Soooo many of the reviews complain about the clothes being too small and people having to size up for them to even fit their children. One of the reviewers complains that she had to buy size 12 to fit her 'normal' 6 year old in the cropped cargos for girls.

AIBU to think that these kids are not normal, they are huge!

I have boden age 4-5 for my slightly petite 5.5 year old and the sizes are generous. Even if she was average for her age she would still only need 5-6.

Maybe your dd is just really small, do you feed her properly?

waitwhat · 15/03/2011 16:42

Ah see ds1 is 8 and wears age 6-7 sometimes age 5 in shorts( He doesn't stop eating either)

But ds2 or the whale as he is lovingly known is 5 months old and is in 6-9

All shops and kids are different

piprabbit · 15/03/2011 16:43

My DD is 138cm tall and fits the 10yr clothes perfectly.

She is just turned 7yo.

YABU.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 15/03/2011 16:44

Ds is tall and stocky, I have pics of him up, he is NOT fat. But does wear age 11/12 clothes at 9

mrsscoob · 15/03/2011 16:44

My son is 4 and I buy him size 5 as he likes his
T shirts quite baggy.

mappandlucia · 15/03/2011 16:44

I have just bought an age 9 top for my 9yr old ds and it's like a dress.

BunnyWunny · 15/03/2011 16:47

My dd isn't small though, that is the point I am making- she is only slightly below average, and wears one size below her age- therefore any 6 year old wearing age 12 in Boden (who produce normal size clothes) must be massive!

BitOfFun · 15/03/2011 16:47

I buy mini-Boden for my very skinny daughter, but have to size up because a) she is tall, and b) I want the clothes to have some growing room as they are not cheap.

I do think your OP is rather discourteous, if you don't mind me pointing it out though.

piprabbit · 15/03/2011 16:49

Perhaps the reviewer with the 6yo failed to realise that cropped trousers are meant to be mid-calf.

No, she was complaining that the waist wouldn't fasten, despite it being and adjustable one. Hmm

Really? This seemed like a good idea for a title?

flippinpeedoff · 15/03/2011 16:53

I think I agree with you op. A 6 year old in 12 year old's clothes is rather large yes, certainly NOT normal no. But some mothers do delude themselves about the size of their kids, well some I know anyway.

gallifrey · 15/03/2011 16:54

My daughter is 7 (will be 8 in august) and she is in size 7-8 clothes which are the right length but always too big in the waist as she's naturally slim :)

5inthebed · 15/03/2011 16:59

My DSs are giants. DS1 is 7, wears aged 10-11 clothes and size 3 shoes, DS2 is 5, wears 7-8 and sizde 12 shoes. Their dad is 6'4" so they are going to be tall as well.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 15/03/2011 16:59

DS is 9 but in age 13 clothes.
Adjustable waists are a god send since we have always had the problem of getting jeans or trousers with long enough legs but then the waist is huuggge.

If something is too tight after releasing an adjustable waist then well..wouldn't like to say.

jaffacake79 · 15/03/2011 17:03

My dd is 8 1/2 and wears age 9-10 tops and age 10 trousers. The waists have to be pulled in a wee bit but otherwise they look like they've fallen out with her shoes and the arms on the tops are too short. She's also long in the body and ends up with her tummy hanging out.

dalek · 15/03/2011 17:04

Pretty offensive thread title - because as mothers we're not already neurotic about our children are we?

alphablock · 15/03/2011 17:20

My daughter is 6.5 and is 138cm. I buy her clothes for age 10-13 depending on the shop.

I know she is particularly tall (so am I and so is DH), but I think more than half her class are above "average" height and have to size up, which suggests that the average in the red book is out of date. Maybe children who are officially supposed to be average height no longer really are average.

BornThisWayBaby · 15/03/2011 17:22

YABU to shop at boden, their clothes look awful

BunnyWunny · 15/03/2011 17:25

Half of the class will be above average- that's how it works! And of course the other half will be below average.

Daisypod · 15/03/2011 17:27

My DD2 is 3 and wears size 3-4 clothes everywhere except mini Boden where she is in 5-6! So I think they are a bit on the small size

Rowgtfc72 · 15/03/2011 17:51

DD has just turned four.We buy age 9 tops and 8-9 jeans.Dad is six ft six though !
