other people's children

My neighbours child is at my house a lot. She is friends with my daughter.
They have a 1yr old baby that seems to be asleep a lot so they play at my house most of the time.

I don't mind normally but I'm 37 weeks pregnant as well as being disabled (I have fibromyalgia) and am getting a bit fed up with looking after this other child.
More often than not her Mum will pop to the shop for an hour leaving her DD here and I'm getting worried now that I might go into labour with another child in my house!

So AIBU to not have her over here to play any more, and to say they can play at their house?

Was chatting to my Mum yesterday and she said I should be taking it easy not looking after other peoples children!

YANBU. Tell your neighbour that you are too tired to have extra children around to play atm. If you don't it will likely continue when you have a newborn too.

FreudianSlippery · 14/03/2011 10:46

YANBU it sounds like this other mum is taking the piss somewhat.

YANBU!

Totally reasonable to say no from now on. I would be a bit Hmm if the other mum didn't then offer to have your daughter over more, considering how much you have been the host up until now.

YANBU and Eglu has a very good point- if they don't realise/care that it's too much for you now, it's quite possible they wont when the baby comes. Better to do something about it now.

YANBU my house is the one where all dd1's friends come and play she is 11 they are here all day most weekends and I normally have 1 or 2 every Saturday night fo sleepovers but when I hit 33 weeks with dd2 6 months I explained that I couldn't have them in anymore just in case I went into labour. All the Mums understood and took dd2 off my hands a fair bit when the new baby arrived.

reinitindear · 14/03/2011 12:39

dd1 I meant Smile I didn't give my newborn away for the day Blush

Honeybee79 · 14/03/2011 12:42

YANBU. Sounds like she's taking the piss - just tell her that you're just too knackered to be entertaining other kids at the moment.

I would be worried about the possibility of early labour and her mum 'popping to the shops'
have a word and tell her dc1 was early and quick so it might be an idea not to have her dc over so much. If you can't get hold of the mum then who will have her dd when you go to the hospital. Or tell her you need a few naps as you are tired and you don't feel right not supervising her child properly.
It does need dealing with now or you will have their dd and yours and a newborn, whilst they have a baby that sleeps a lot and are having child free days.
