To insist on a new suite when my husband needs a car?

I suspect I am but I cannot live with our suite any more. It is horrible. I feel totally humiliated at the mere thought of anyone seeing it. it's tatty and the chair has a massive hole in the side and the seat is split from side to side and the bottom is broken.

I am so embarrassed that I won't let anyone visit the house.

We can get a second hand one but we need a car for Himself so that he can market (new business start) we live rurally, he will not be able to market to people via public transport! this isn't london or anything Grin and I can't let him use my car because I have to do the school runs - 2 schools 7 minutes apart by car, pick ups at the same time! It's hard enough by car. I would have to be superwoman to do it without!

So he needs a car. but if I don't get a half decent suite I am going to cry. And he is now starting to make noises about how he must have a car and do we really need a suite adn we may have to wait.

So AIBU to refuse to discuss it and have what was basically a huge hissy fit at him over it?

Would you have a suite like I describe, for the Greater Good? Am I being selfish?

am near sheffield. Have just joined sheffield freecycle just now on v good advice on this thread Grin will also try that charity shop now someone jogged my memory Grin and may send Himself to haggle at dfs etc too.

am feeling much more optimistic now. seems like loads of options. and Himself thinks I'm great for doing complete turnaround on the issue.

No. I didn't tell him it was you lot - do you think I'm crazy? Grin

Grin tethersend. If loos are cheaper I could get a few from b&q and dot them around the living room Grin It'd be a talking point if nothing else.

cat - the charity shop I am on about is that one. in crystal peaks.

HTC Why worry what 'they' think usually the richer people are the tighter they are. If you manage to get them down they will probably wait to you leave the shop and say 'those b's I bet they've got a bloody lexus and a go on cruises the swine'

We don't have room for an entire suite, but got a bargainiferous almost brand new sofa from ebay for 50 quid.

You can get new foam and stuff for the cushions which would be a cheap temp repair job too, or just replace one item at a time?

randommoment · 14/03/2011 01:10

Freecycle is godlike. Amazing the stuff that people are still giving away because they don't like the colour. We've got four sofas in various rooms, all charity shop/auctions etc. the most expensive was £30. And that much only because it's leather. Good luck finding an equally cheap motor for DH.

HecateTheCrone · 14/03/2011 06:43

Grin yeah, honedragon, but I can't let you into the living room Wink

I do like your spin on it, bee. [gri]

cock - nah, chair is beyond any patch or repair

random - having browsed last night, I agree.

well. dirt cheap sofa hunt begins today. am rather excited (which says more about how dull my life is than anything else Grin ) and feeling so much better about it all.

and my husband thinks I'm fabulous. Grin

result!
