Has anyone else seen the new advert from Boots the chemist advertising pain relief, its the one where man and women are in bed and the man is kissing the woman's arm and shoulder and she is about to say not tonight dear i have a headache and the man shakes a packet of paracetamol or something similar at her, and the message is "be prepared", i don't like it, it seems to me to have the message, we are going to have sex whether you like it or not and if you think your bottling out with the old chestnut of a headache you are mistaken!! OK i know i may be being a tad dramatic but as soon as i saw it i just thought ugh, bit icky!!Am i being a prude?

yabu and overthinking it. it's just an advert.

bronze · 26/03/2011 18:41

Aimed at guys? Yes that is worse. It's giving them the wrong idea.

expatinscotland · 26/03/2011 18:43

Maybe it's aimed at morons, that's why you like it so well.

Nothing a little paracetamol can't mend, Beer.

gutshot4eva · 26/03/2011 20:48

lol at all the big boy blonde mugs coming in here taking the mickey! just about sums up your level this hey chaps? for all you ladies that don't know, these so called "men" are having a big old giggle at your expense here..

blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=52567.0

..its funny how they would never in a million years try a stunt like this on another poker forum, they know they would get ripped to shreds see,but i guess coming over here and giving it the large one gives em all a much needed sense of superiority. (small penis syndrome anyone?)

I suggest a few of you lovely ladies go over there and give em a taste of their own medicine, but be warned, they are prone to getting tearful and throwing their toys out the pram when anyone gets nasty on their little playground!

PurveyorOfWoo · 26/03/2011 20:54

Nahhh, they're not worth it.

0.5/10 for effort lads

You could have at least tried a BF/FF debate then you might have been toasted (mind you it doesn't take a troll to achieve that)

gutshot4eva · 27/03/2011 00:03

Yeah you are probably right P.O.W. they arent worth it,in fact their snidey little forum is regarded as a bit of a joke in the poker world,it's mainly made up of posh little adolescent boys who still live at home with their parents but talk like they have freshly arrived out of the ghetto lol,it's comical stuff, but if you ever do venture over there just mention a guy called "Blatch",that should get the little sweethearts squealing good and proper,he made them all look like clowns in front of their peers in the poker community and that's probably why they only feel safe these days acting like tough guys on womens forums!

Good luck to you all and keep up the good work,it's a very nice forum you have here and I hope idiots like these don't ruin it for you.

gutshot4eva · 27/03/2011 11:53

well well well,

to coin a phrase from a certain mr sovietsong above, how "ironic"...

He describes me as being "a bit pathetic and sad" on the blonde thread I have linked above,I am assuming this is because I had the audacity to alert the fine people of this forum to the outrageous behaviour he and his gang of juvenile cohorts were disgracefully caught in the act of last night, well mr sovietsong, let me tell you something, what I find REALLY pathetic and sad is so called grown men, adults no less, with nothing better to do than come on to a respectable women's forum on a Saturday night with the pre-meditated intention of making fun of them, and to then, without the slightest hint of provocation, describe these same people as "idiots" and "mental"

This, sir,is what I regard as "pathetic and sad",and may I suggest that you and your fellow goons take a good look at yourselves in the mirror and decide if this is really how decent people ought to behave!

PurveyorOfWoo · 27/03/2011 22:01

Gunshot I take it they have pissed on your chips in the past!

MN has experienced a fair few invasions in the past, and mostly acquitted itself pretty well - plenty of sharp knives in this drawer! The blondes effort was piss poor TBH, especially picking such a random thread, not contentious in any way and getting very little passing traffic. I'm afraid they are not about to go down in the annals of MN.

Thanks for exposing their miserable efforts though. Sadly it's too much to hope they will learn much from this. Maybe their time will come when 3p tins of beans loose their comedic value Wink

MsScarlett · 27/03/2011 22:15

Not very original. I'm sure that whole headache-but-her-are-some-painkillers story has been doen before in an ad...

Bogeyface · 27/03/2011 22:48

I would be a brilliant ad if it had carried on to what would be, in this house atleast, its natural conclusion.

"Oh thanks, my guts are killing me. Did you pick me up some more tampons while you were out too?" :o

gutshot4eva · 28/03/2011 00:26

@PurveyorOfWoo
No,they haven't pissed on my my chips, only donated them to me,in huge quantity's Grin

the majority of poker players on blonde are what we in the poker world call "donks" or "fish" or "spewtard monkeys", basically it mean's they are not the sharpest tools in the box,as you no doubt have already gathered from their pathetic little foray on to your forum Wink

I'm glad I could have been of assistance to you in thwarting their puerile little trolling adventure although I have no doubt that you would have bested these clowns quick smart all by yourself.

Adios,and once again,compliments on a great forum.

confuddledDOTcom · 28/03/2011 00:51

You should try visiting Planet Rugby, you're about the same intelligence level. The best invasions are when we've had conversations without anyone posting on the other's site, that was a fun day. Usually that's other parenting forums so at least they were able to discuss something relevent with us.

YANBU OP. I knew I knew that concept but couldn't remember where from so thanks to whoever said WWW.

JoanneEm · 25/04/2011 14:07

Hey all. I complained a while back about this advert, for the reasons a lot of you stated above. This is some of the response I received from the Advertising Standards Agency;

"We can only act if the ad, in our judgement, offends widely accepted moral, social or cultural standards. We noted that the ad showed a couple in a mutual, consenting, adult relationship and there was no suggestion of inappropriate behaviour. We have only received 20 complaints so it seems your concern isnt widely shared".

-I think one of the problems is that this advert/Boots seems to think it IS widely acceptable for someone to be fed painkillers so the other half can have sex/ suggests that guys would do this.
-As if coercion and sexual pressure cannot occur in an adult relationship...

Anyway...I know so many people who have hated this (and other Boots adverts), so its a shame they have "only" received 20 complaints (and don't think this is enough to flag up concerns). So if you still want to, drop a few lines to the ASA at the link below. They ask you where and when you saw it- just make it up if you cant remember.

Seriously all the Boots adverts are pants. Psychological twadle about empowering women (by showing us they have a harder life than men but get on with it) whilst throwing in tired old jokes to keep the men happy (simple bunch that we are) but in all honesty who cares It's just a crappy advert!!! Bigger picture here people who is the actress that plays that part because after seeing the add with her in her bikini I so need to crack one off over her. I apologise to Any feminists or any women in general for my comments but I'm just a guy. We're simple folk with simple needs / senses of humour you cannot change us any more than we can change you so if you cant just live with it turn to the other side but I'm sure you'll still complain about meaningless crap when in the real world people are starving, suffering and losing their lives so get a grip and stop getting worked up about nothing. P.S. I bet none of you have been so disgusted you will forever boycott Boots.

ReadyToDrink · 09/06/2011 01:09

... I'm sure that if you make a strategic google search, there are other areas of the internet more suited to your interests as 'just a guy' feeling the need to resurrect a thread to tell us that you want to 'crack one off' over an actress. HTH.
