to think some of us need to suck it up a bit?

We're grown women, right? We're mothers raising children. Why, then have some recent posts caused me to despair about the seeming lack of broad shoulders, inner strength, maturity shown by some women?

Examples include:

"my wife was in tears at unprofessional mothercare staff"

"my MiL said boo"

"my MiL folded my clothes" Confused

Will probably get a flaming for this, but just wondering why some women seem so feeble.

People that ignore 'no kids' on a wedding invitation human Wink

majormayhem · 12/03/2011 14:28

Could we just have a "wusses corner" alongside the flouncers corner? We could then just have the weak-willed threads sent there for a kick up the backside to be fed with nourishing broth, until they've quite recovered.

humanoctopus · 12/03/2011 14:30

majormayhem - excellent.

mummyosaurus · 12/03/2011 14:32

YABU

Sometimes people just need a moan/some sympathy.

Lighten up.

fifi25 · 12/03/2011 14:32

human lol

Maylee · 12/03/2011 14:34

They THINK they need sympathy.

What they really need is a kick up the bum

Surely some of these posts are tongue in cheek though???? surely?

I agree with the sucking it up/getting a grip thing though...

mummyosaurus · 12/03/2011 14:46

Maybe they need both, but at the moment they post they need some sympathy.

It's to be hoped that sympathy will make them feel better and then they can give themselves the kick up the bum.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 12/03/2011 14:47

I LOVE those threads. They make me laugh and laugh. Sometimes they fill me with rightious indignation (both of these things are good).

MNs would be the same without affluent, educated, well housed, well dressed, healthy women having a moan about Nannies who dont hand make pasta.

Dont spoil my fun please.

Also people need a rant sometimes. If they are moaning on here the chances are they know it is really a trivial problem so they dare not complain in real life - you never know...

I've tried to find where 'suck it up comes from'

The only origin I can find is from the air force.

'Supposed to be pilot slang. If you vomit into your mask, you'd better suck it up. Otherwise, you can inhale it and die.'

I like that origin.

KatieMiddleton · 12/03/2011 15:23

Oh I don't want them to go! I just want to be able to post a tiny picture of a sheep to tell them "stop bleating"!

And I don't think anyone on the thread is talking about people with real issues. We mean those who need a swift kick up the bum. For their own good Grin

Maylee · 12/03/2011 15:29

Yep - that was exactly my thoughts when I started this thread katie

Need to start a campaign for a hoover/straw / sheep or erm.....udder Confused !!

Agrees with the OP... and for the ones who say 'there's no need to read posts you don't want to', often there's no choice. The serial petty whiners project their grizzly tales onto any other thread that will give them their audience.

So... by the same token that we don't need to read those threads, the whiners don't need to post on them, they could go and spin around their own room and annoy their nearest and dearest. Grin

phooey · 12/03/2011 15:30

Hmmm I think people just like venting a bit about little things. It doesn't mean they don't have bigger things to worry about. MN is great for testing the water to see how other people feel about things you could never ask people in rl.

People ttc ask the most minor stuff on here, and chat happily for hours about totally inane stuff, but y'know, why not?

As someone said, if MN was only for major, life-changing events, it would be a dull place.

Am currently posting on a thread about whether Kate Middleton has an annoying face, and another about the earthquake in Japan.

I think tis you, OP, who needs to suck it up [straw]

KatieMiddleton · 12/03/2011 15:34

Where is this thread about my face? Angry

Grin
Maylee · 12/03/2011 15:34

All I ask is for an emoticon though Smile
