I never post on here I am usually on other boards. I am sure this has been done to death but WTH is the matter with people and the way they park at school.

Today a parent completely blocked the road! She noticed and moved to let another car go and then reversed into the same place, blocking the road again.

There is no way an ambulance or fire enguine could have got down the road.

I sooo wanted to say something but am sick of getting a gobfull off these kind of people.

What can we do to stop this?

The school have tried the newsletter approach but it doesn't work.

Our school had a community police officer outside ours for about 8 months, but what with the cutbacks she's not there anymore.

This means the stupid lazy twats take the piss even more..park all over the pavements, block drives, park on yellow zig zags and double park. I've seen stand up fist fights outside school too.

All because everyone simply has to post bang outside..like parking 5 mins down the road would kill them Hmm

Niecie · 11/03/2011 17:02

Do you have a yellow school bus scheme. It has helped a lot round here to ease the parking.

The community police man also sent out a letter partcially calling people idiots for parking inconsiderately. He didn't pull any punches and people know the police are watching. That has helped a bit too.

However, I live next to the school and there are loads of people who still think the rules of the road don't apply to them because they are picking up their children. I couldn't care less if people want to park in our cul-de-sac if they park legally and properly but so many don't.

park not post Blush

upahill · 11/03/2011 17:03

Suggest to the school that they get the police in to do some spot checks every now again.

Our school sent out a warning that it would be happening 'at some point' and the checks were done unannounced. This happened a few times over a couple of months but people soon go the message.

Initaily warnings were given out and after the second visit fines were issued.

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 11/03/2011 17:03

This was happening at our school was so irritating, the school tried the newsletter approach. Now there are parking wardens at the front entrance and back entrances to stop people parking irresponsibly.

DramaInPyjamas · 11/03/2011 17:06

We have the community police patrolling the roads near our school too.

worraliberty · 11/03/2011 17:08

One of our local schools had a group of volunteer parents out there in high visibility vests, telling people to park away from the front. Personally I thought that was a bad idea when I read it in the newspaper. I can only imagine the trouble and bad feeling it might have caused.

Ineedalife · 11/03/2011 18:24

The police have been down many times and have issued tickets, the school have used cones to prevent cars parking right by the gates and yellow lines have been painted on part of the road.

Nothing seems to work.

I drive to school once or twice a week but park away from the school and walk the last few minutes, I completely fail to understand why people need to be right by the gates.

Sorry rant over.

Our school had to have barriers fitted which are now closed and won't open for anybody between 8.40 and 9.ooam and 3.00 and 3.30pm. They did used to allow disabled parents to have the gate code to drop off their children but the school found that other drivers tail gated them and dashed in whilst the barrier was up!! Shock Now even the disabled parents aren't allowed in during those times which is harsh but necessary because of the idiots.

It seems to me all sense goes out the window when it comes to dropping off children at school. The only thing that has helped is the Yellow Bus scheme and that is because there are less cars so more spaces. Nothing to do with the parents getting more sensible or remembering the highway codes doesn't allow them a special dispensation from following the rules just because they are taking their precious darlings to school!!

Triggles · 14/03/2011 13:03

It's horrible at our school as well. My god, it's like people leave their common sense at home. And it's not only drivers, but pedestrians as well! parents walk right out in front of moving cars with their children, expecting a car to stop (or to see them walking between parked cars and stepping out in front of them without warning). Even driving a slow speed, it's dangerous!

It's those "the rules don't apply to me" idiots that make me so angry! Stupid inconsiderate people. Angry

moonstonezoe · 14/03/2011 13:07

Our head got the police to blitz the area around our school and they gave tickets to all the dangerous selfish parkers.
There were lots of grumbles from those fined but it does seem to have stopped the worst abusers.

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 14/03/2011 13:09

I live 4 doors away from DS's school. I have been off sick for a few months so have been home to see the stupidity of some of the parents. They have to block the road so that they can let their tiny 4 year olds run into the playground by themselves instead of parking in the next road and walking.

I wouldn't mind so much if the furthest child on the last intake who wasn't a sibling lived 500 metres away! Makes me think that they all get one child in and then move away to a posher area with the poor school and keep their place --in the good school in the shitty area]]!

I don't live in the UK, but saw a spectacular piece of retribution just before half term. An individual always parks his black Porshe in a way that causes maximum disruption to both buses and other drivers. I've spoken to the twat a couple of times, the school has spoken to him (softly because he is on the board) and the bus drivers have had words. He's had umpteen tickets too.
He had parked in his normal place and one of the drivers needed to get away. He couldn't so tooted his horn, twatty bollocks waved him away and said he would be another 10 minutes max. The coach drivers foot accidently slipped off a pedal and the Porsche has a rather large dent in it. I noticed it wasn't there this morning Grin

gallifrey · 14/03/2011 13:54

Our school is the same, what really annoys me is when people park across the dropped kerbs, I'm in a wheelchair and the other day had to go along the road because I couldn't get up onto the pavement :(

People park on the zig zag lines but are only dropping off so that's ok then...

We had a PCSO outside the school for about a week but obviously nobody did it when he was there.

GandTiceandaslice · 14/03/2011 14:02

We have a supermarket 3 mins walk from our school. They are more than happy for parents to park there. Will they heck.
One of the tiny side roads leading to the school is chaos morning & evening. I feel for the residents of they need to get in or out at that time.

At my sisters childrens school, the big gate leading to the playground was open one morning. One parent drove ONTO the playground & drove their child to the door. Shock They actually beeped people out of the way.

My sister said that gate is never usually open but needed to be that day as they had a production coming into the school.

What on earth went through that parents mind???
