This is the only bank that does this.

Do you work for LLoyds- if so tell me why?

Today I banked about 12 cheques. I waited as she totalled them and ran them thrugh the machine. The total tallied with what I had said. Then she asked me to wait to see "if they all cleared". Whatever that means.
I know this is just a ploy. Eventually she says- " there is a note here that the account manager wants you to make an appt."

NO! This is a ploy to sell me things I don't want.

I have free banking as long as I am in credit but they keep trying to get me toupgrade my account - to one which incurs charges.

No other bank makes me wait while they process cheques.

Did she say what the bank manager wanted you to make an appointment for or are you just assuming it's about upgrading?

cabbageroses · 10/03/2011 14:57

The former but it's always about upgrading. No reason for them to want to see me- alwasy incredit, not enough to earn interst blah blah..

when Ihave asked before WHY they want to see me it's always "To see if we can save you money" as it is not costing me anything now , that is a joke.

They try to seel me an account that has a monthly charge under the guise of it being a gold or platnum account ( as if I care).

"Save me money? Ok. What I have at the moment is free. To save me money on Free, you'd have to be giving it to me. I will make an appt with the manager if s/he is wanting to give me money. When shall I come in?"

thunderbird69 · 10/03/2011 15:09

Yes I get that too (at Lloyds). Questions vary, often it is 'would you like a savings review?'

It is annoying. If you are not known to anyone in the branch you could always claim that you don't have an account with them, that you're paying the cheques in for someone else!

Or put the cheques in one of those envelopes so you can avoid any staff contact.

ThistleDoNicely · 10/03/2011 15:13

I don't work for a Lloyds branch, but my husband used to. It flags up on the screen and the cashier is prompted to ask you if you would like an appointment. You don't have to take it. Just tell them you're not interested and ask them to put a note to that effect on your account. Or put your cheques into an envelope so they process it without you having to wait.

Frustrating, yes, but not worth getting in a flap about.

Catkinsthecatinthehat · 10/03/2011 15:15

Lloyds customer here and it drives me mad! However I have found a solution. I just put cheques in a depositpoint envelope and pop it in the box in the branch. If I do it at lunchtime, it usually shows up in my account at the end of the day.

cabbageroses · 10/03/2011 15:24

I just have a fear that the cheques will disappear into thin air if they go into the deposit box.

What I object to is having to WAIT until they do something with the cheques- no other bank does- I also belong to natwest. This tages ages- asit did today. They always ask you towait- and 99% of the time it's to ask you to make an appt.

I think they check the balance and see how much is coming in regularly- and if it's quite a bit, then they pounce on you.

Not just Lloyds. RBS do it to me. They always try and get me to change to their house insurance, even though they can't compete with the one we have. They kept ringing me up to go in for an "account review". I know it's because we've got a loan with about 12 months left and they are trying to get us to take out a new one.
They stopped ringing when I said DH was now unemployed.

TobyLerone · 10/03/2011 15:26

Natwest do it too. Over the phone. Once when they rang me to say that someone had tried to buy something with my credit card, they tried to sell me something once they'd sorted it. Then when I rang to activate my new card they tried to sell me something else.

Can't you use the quick deposit machines instead?

Catkinsthecatinthehat · 10/03/2011 15:42

I also have an irrational fear of things disappearing from the deposit box, but in two years of using it I've never had a problem.

I'm sure my local Lloyds staff are trained by Mrs Doyle from Father Ted. "Do you want an account review? Are you sure? Go on now, you do, you do, you do!" Grin
