I mean, I definitely can't act as well as he can, but I reckon I'm can get a group of teenagers much more interested in the Bard than he's managed so far!

Yep. Me too. With my eyes shut! Smile

He's not a teacher, is he? Please God, prevent Jamie Oliver from ever being on the recruitment or interview panel for any teaching job. Stick to cooking, love.

manicbmc · 09/03/2011 21:32

He can act? I thought he just played a parody of himself over and over. Grin

frecklyspeckly · 09/03/2011 21:33

Sure you are jenga- Starkey and Callow seem to feel threatened and take it personally the teenagers won't do what they want

jenga079 · 09/03/2011 21:44

I don't think I've ever told a pupil when Shakespeare was born. Why would they want to know? At least Callow could see immediately that shouting at them had been a bad idea; Starkey really isn't coming across well.

and me-in fact I know I could [and have]

BelligerentGhoul · 09/03/2011 21:47

I didn't watch it but my Year 11s think that this programme is interesting and revealing about education. Are they deluded?

I'm not bad at teaching Shakespeare but if anybody has any brilliant new ideas for teaching Macbeth, I'd be happy to steal them!

34go · 09/03/2011 21:49

I never realised I was doing so well with it until tonight!! Thank you Simon Callow for making me realise I am pretty good at teaching Shakespeare :)

manicbmc · 09/03/2011 21:49

Get them to read Terry Pratchet's Wyrd Sisters as background? Grin

BelligerentGhoul · 09/03/2011 21:51

Oh I love that opening page - isn't it something like 'When shall we three meet again?' "Well, I can do next Tuesday.' :)

Hassled · 09/03/2011 21:55

He was awful. There is so much fun and positive and interesting to say about Shakespeare - he found none of it. In fairness he's an actor, not a teacher.

I'm warming to Starkey - learnt from his mistakes, trying again etc.

Grin
jenga079 · 09/03/2011 22:00

Ooh, good for Starkey. I take it back. He was brave to go back in and he seemed to take a much better approach second time round.

And YAY for us all being such good teachers Grin

I'm not. Am merely a humble classroom assistant. I don't get a sniff of Shakespeare, more's the pity. Envy

pointydog · 09/03/2011 22:25

callow is a bit of an arse though

hardhatdonned · 09/03/2011 22:27

Can't stand the man, can't stand Jamie Oliver, can't stand his incessent need to do numerous social experiments...oh i could rant on for days about it all Blush

EvilTwins · 09/03/2011 22:33

Didn't watch it today, but I teach Shakespeare bloody well. Had a whole class of bottom set Yr 7s doing a brilliant job of it today.
