I broke one of the nosepieces on my glasses today so popped into the City to get them repaired. It wasn't a massive job.

As I have my eye tests done at Boots (I didn't need new glasses from my latest test), I went there where the 'jobsworth' said they couldn't fix them because I hadn't bought them there. I asked if I could just buy the nosepieces and repair them myself. She repeated that she couldn't help me AT ALL (she said exactly that Angry) as I hadn't purchased them there.

I was a bit Hmm at this. Anyway gave up as she was a silly bitch. I went to Specsavers who not only repaired them but cleaned them up so they are all sparkly new again for no charge and I didn't buy them from there either.

AIBU to be annoyed with them as I think this customer service (or lack of) was a bit off.

Definitely.

Guess where you won't be buying your next pair of glasses from?

When we were in Spain my DS's screw came out of his glasses. We went to the local optician who fixed it there and then without charge. so YANBU.

ViolaTricolor · 09/03/2011 14:01

That surprises me a bit really. I needed a replacement screw for my specs and David Clulow wanted £3 or some such nobbery, but Boots did it for free and were very nice, so I put some money in their charity box.

purplepidjin · 09/03/2011 14:02

That's stupid. The screws cost about .03 of a pence, and it ensures repeat business.

My local vision express charged me a quid last time - into the RNIB charity box on the side Grin I thought that was more than fair!

caughtinanet · 09/03/2011 14:02

Yes, very silly, my DH's glasses lost a screw on holiday and we went into a small local opticians and they mended them free of charge. I wasn't in a position to ever use them again but in you shoes I wouldn't be going back to Boots.

If you can be bothered I'd ring the manager and complain.

Well done Specsavers. Real customer service!

belgo · 09/03/2011 14:06

YANBU. I've been to different opticians and always been helped free of charge (although I've spent thousands on contact lenses and glasses over the years).

GrimmaTheNome · 09/03/2011 14:11

DH has always found he can use whatever random optician he happens to be near - ASDA usually.

Yes, poor customer service.

Lulumama · 09/03/2011 14:13

Ive had my glasses repaired in all sorts of places as they don't handily break in the opticians. Always either free or they ask for a donation to RNIB or somesuch

starfishmummy · 09/03/2011 14:16

Agree with Lulu. Most opticians help, and will normally have a box for donations.

I used to work for Dollond and Aitchison and half the time was spent repairing and deep cleaning glasses. It was the best part of the job!
