I thought Cameron got a very easy ride last night. (even the owl looked bemused)

I suppose all PMs have done that sort of
#easy going gig.

But it tends to leave the interviewers looking a little like rabbits caught in the headlights.

Prolesworth...Yes how on earth does Cameron sleep?

Put the owl in the corner of the bedroom it might help Something to talk to.

oh i love Matt Baker now!

why is it only northerners who seem to speak out about social justice?

Southern folk have a left wing tradtion too, although the way we're represented (Mark Steele and Billy Bragg aside) you'd think we were all snuggled up firmly in Mr Cameron's backside.

MavisEnderby · 09/03/2011 12:21

I love matt baker too.(Contemplates adding him to celebs who would be filthy thread)

I liked prezza on Top Gear that was funny

GabbyLoggon · 09/03/2011 12:24

intergala....No, we must not get snuggled up Mr Cs backside....yes, Matt Baker does pop in a difficult question or two.

Has he got the One Show job permanently now or are they still swapping around?

I am a Midlander incidentally. cheers

To be fair, he probably reaches a far wider audience than on Question Time or the Today programme - at least he is trying to connect with "the people".

Chil1234 · 09/03/2011 12:41

Gordon Brown was very fond of sofa-time with easy-going presenters on morning TV. They all do it. Baker had to lob in a thorny question so that it didn't look like a total love-fest.... but he's no John Humphrys or Jeremy Paxman.

GabbyLoggon · 09/03/2011 13:09

MAVIS

Prezza is doing the shipping forecast for Red Nose Day. (Radio 4 12.50am I suppose.)

yes all PMs do it. Maggie slipped up when she got a persistent lady on the Belgrano.

he he just watched link - go matt Smile never thought he had it in him

I don't think it is a problem unless they are avoiding the tough interviewers too. Surely the PM should be seen by as many people as possible? If that means going on programmes like the One Show occasionally then that is fine imo, a good thing even.

Tbh, I don't think he did get that easy a ride. All the video questions were asking why they have cut x or y. Nobody, from what I saw, was saying what a great job he was doing.

GabbyLoggon · 10/03/2011 11:02

I think the Radio 4 TODAY, which has fierce interviewers, would say they had less access to
Prime Ministers than they would like.
The ONE SHOW is a bit like Hello mag in interviewing terms. (thats the format)

And does the leader of the Opposition get on in response to Cameron?

there is also a problem with the Coaltion of the 2 parties getting a bite of the same cherry. The BBC recognises this problem

cheers

I turned it off in disgust when they started discussing the bloody cat. I wish I had watched right to the end now.

GabbyLoggon · 10/03/2011 11:15

J.Bellingham,,,,yes, of course Cameron would have preferred to discuss the cat for the whole interview. (That is considered good PR for a Cabinet flush with millionaires.)

The interview would be the idea of the bloke who replaced Andy Coulson in Camerooneys office

Its a funny old world

Of course the opposition should get a go. Am I wrong in thinking that Gordon Brown has already been on? Obviously not current opposition leader, just saying it has been done before. It will be interesting to see if Ed goes on as well.

I am also not denying that TOS is a bit light weight but there will be people watching that who never see QT or listen Today and who never hear the PM (or any politician I suppose) speak freely, in a slightly more off the cuff way. I don't think that is a problem so long as they do the tough Paxo/Humphreys interviews as well. I am also sure Today would love it if they had the PM on more often but I bet he has been on there a lot more times than he has been on TOS!! So long as somebody from the Cabinet is ready to speak to them then they should be happy(ish).
