As soon as you take it out of it's packaging, it starts to dry out and once put away, on return, it is all crumbly and not in any way pliable.

Anyone else experience this and is there any way to revive it? I tried a bit of water but it just turned into a sticky unusable mess.

Oh no, don't say that! I've brought DD the bumper pack for her birthday! Sad

lucykate · 08/03/2011 18:03

try a bit of vegetable oil instead of water?

Tokyotwist · 08/03/2011 18:05

Oh dear, maybe we have a bad/old batch. I did buy it when it was on offer. I'm might try some oil, but failing that the stuff is going in the bin.

Trex

(Block of white fat, basically, used for pastry making)

Its what you use to moisten up your sugarpaste when covering cakes etc, and people use it in cakes if they want to die young

It will revive it, I promise. Failing that, use veg oil, but Trex is already a paste, sort of, so even better.

What did you store it in? I find the ones you buy that are just in little sausage shapes in cellophane have to be kept in an airtight container otherwise it will go all crappy. I once tried to keep it inplastic sandwich bags which didnt work at all.

It's not the norm, normally soft stuff is excellent for keeping (and colour blending!)so if you've stored it right then it sounds like a dodgy batch, if you have your receipt take it back and ask for an exchange.

SoupDragon · 08/03/2011 18:24

Make your own. it is really easy.

lucykate · 08/03/2011 23:18

voila!

BetamaxBandit · 08/03/2011 23:54

Soft stuff is crap. Play-doh is much better.

sazm · 09/03/2011 00:04

we have some that is years old,its fab,so long as its stored in an air tight tub :)

IWantToBeAFairyWhenIGrowUp · 09/03/2011 07:08

I don't understand why anyone buys play doh/soft stuff. Its so simple to make and lasts ages too. Since DD was 1 I've only made 2 batches for her and she's almost 4.

sazm · 09/03/2011 13:59

when i had myy first i'd never heard of making it,i bought him a big bag full for £1 at a carboot sale, we still have most of it,
my dd loves the home made stuff at playgroup (they make pink and blue glittery stuff)

DS has loads. I pray for some of it to dry out so that I can have an excuse to throw some of it away as it's taking over but it lasts and lasts. I think as long as you pack it away as soon as they're finished playing, it takes ages to dry out.

ziptoes · 10/03/2011 20:36

I hate soft stuff. DH had the inspired idea to play a game called "lets throw it in the bin" with DS. Now we have no more tiny luminous shreds sticking to the bottom of our slippers and getting trodden into the carpet.

FlipFlop32 · 10/03/2011 20:46

I'll add to the people saying make your own. The kids love to help, its cheap, you can make it in any colour and its so much better than the bought stuff (I keep it in the fridge). I absolutely love the smell of it when its warm and freshly made.
