I'm feeling really crappy and emotional at the moment because of the contraceptive implant which had taken out last night but is not quite out of my system yet. I went to Asda earlier and decided to get some dressing pads in case I get my bandage wet when I shower. I've just taken them out of the bag and noticed that some bastard had opened the box from the bottom and opened up the sterile packet of one of the pads. I've been sitting here crying for the last ten minutes because I feel like an idiot for not checking the box properly. Why would someone do that though? I really hope it's someone on here so that they can feel suitably guilty.

I feel for you. A few years ago I bought a pg test from my local shop, plucked up the courage in the goldfish bowl community I live in. Went home opened the box and discovered to my horror that the box was empty and I'd paid £10 for an empty box. It was awful. Hope you feel better soon :)

QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 16:08

At least my dressing pads were only 20p each! If I'd bought a pregnancy test today and the box was empty I'd probably be in an inconsolable fit of tears for the rest of the day (and I imagine most women would). If you're going to open a packet and nick the contents or tamper with them you should at least make it obvious you've done it so that people won't buy it (stealing from big companies is nowhere near as bad as stealing from people in my book).

To be honest I think the people that do stupid things like that are normally immature teenagers who think it's hilarious to nick the contents of boxes and not make it obvious so you end up spending money for an empty box. I only left school a few years ago so things like that are quite obvious to me as I know how pathetic, immature and thoughtless a lot of teens can be. I'm in the habit of shaking boxes before I buy them to makes sure theres actually something in there!

nickelprincess · 08/03/2011 16:18

I do that too Melly - always shake the box or check the seal, just in case! Grin

(yes, sometimes they're empty)

peeriebear · 08/03/2011 16:19

I bought a cordless mouse from Asda and when I opened the box it was a shitty plug in mouse, really old and rubbish, somebody had obviously switched them Angry you don't think to check the box when you buy do you!

IcingOnTheCakes · 08/03/2011 16:22

QueenStromba did you think the bandage they put on when they remove the implant was abit overkill? I had mine removed 2 weeks ago and the size of the bandage for a tiny cut was just silly!

RachelHRD · 08/03/2011 16:39

We bought a stair gate a couple of weeks ago and when DH opened the box showing the model we wanted it was a cheaper one inside Angry.

We needed to use it there and then and DH bought it some distance away so haven't been able to sort out a refund or exchange - it did make me think someone probably bought 2 and then returned the cheaper one in the more expensive box Angry

poopnscoop · 08/03/2011 16:43

How cheeky! I have also taken home an EMPTY box before. It stinks.

Punkatheart · 08/03/2011 16:43

A local charity shop keeps having batteries stolen from items. What on earth?

Sorry to hear you are going through such an emotional time. Sorry too that someone did something so mean. Make yourself a cup of tea and settle down here among friends.

NettoSuperstar · 08/03/2011 16:45

That reminds me, I need to get my implant taken out.
I've had it for four years, and was sterilised three years ago, and haven't had a shag for over a year!

Gabyrale · 08/03/2011 16:45

Can't you take it back? They are generally quite reasonable I find...

nickelprincess · 08/03/2011 16:47

yes! i used to sell booklights, and the batteries always went missing. Angry

maras2 · 08/03/2011 16:51

Shit,I realy hate that. After buying some not very cheap books from a charity shop, soon discovered that the glossy pictures and some text had been cut out.Sorry I know it's not as bad as your post but what kind of idiot does that ?

QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 16:55

IcingOnTheCakes - If you're talking about the bandage that they wrap around your arm that's to stop it bruising.

Gabyrale - I might do since Asda are great for returns, it's extra hassle and extra time spent in Asda though and I might want to change my bandage before I go to Asda next.

I bought some peanut butter the other day, didn't even think to open the top to check, got it home and someone had peeled the label off and taken a big scoop of peanut butter!

It went straight in the bin - disgusting.

KittaKatta · 08/03/2011 17:03

Call them and get them to log it.

I have had a problem with something I bought from them before, got home to discover the chicken was so very gone off even though it was in date, rang to complain as I knew that I wouldn't be able to get there for at least a week.
Got myself all hoiked up ready for a fight, and the buggers were nice and pleasant and all we're soo sorry, this must be so inconvenient for you, put me on hold and came back offering to send me vouchers for the cost and when I gave my address she commented that she lived down the street from me, knew me by sight, was finishing in 10 minutes and could drop off a fresh chicken and the vouchers if I liked..

And I?d got all ready for a fight.
But she did say when I was chatting and thanking her that if the issue is logged, it doesn?t matter when you go back they should still deal with it

sarahtigh · 08/03/2011 17:18

itis really annoying bought a car once double checked that manual and everything was in glove box it was, paid etc by the time had got keys the manual and radio code had been stolen so had to take to garage for them to read code, and no manual so a lot of exploring to find how to put child locks on doors etc some people are selfish brats

also had a friend with antique shop and people kept taking the pendulums and keys to wind them so now sh has to dismantle everyone and keep keys in office and then go and wind them to proof they work to customers serious hassle!

QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 17:24

Aw that's really heartwarming KittaKatta - that's cheered me right up.

Come to think of it I'm hoping that someone else is a mumsnetter. I rang up NHS direct trying to find out how to get my implant out ASAP and rather bizarrely the nurse I was talking to had the same name as me even though I meet one person every year or two at most with my name. She was lovely and after listening to me whinge about my implant she said that she wished she was here so she could take it out for me herself - I was just what I needed to hear because I was really worried that I wasn't going to be able to get it taken out after reading so many stories of women having to battle to have it out. As it was I got to the family planning clinic really early and the nurse took it out for me before they were even officially open and then gave me 32 condoms because I said I didn't want to go back on the pill until I was feeling myself again.

I bought a box of Pregnacare vitamins when I was TTC. It cost about £15 and when I got home I found it was empty. I too cried and felt very stupid for not checking.

I thought there was no way Waitrose would believe me but DH called them and explained and they kindly gave me a refund.

Fortunately I got pregnant soon after which saved me from spending any more money.

QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 17:32

sarahtigh: I think people just think that if it's something small then it's not that bad even though it can be the small things that are the biggest pain in the arse. When I've lost/had my phone stolen it's always the loss of the sim card that bothered me the most (not so much now that it's easier to back things up). I had a wallet go missing in a club (not sure if I dropped it or it was pick pocketed) and I was so grateful that it was handed in even though the money was missing - the amount of hassle it would have been to replace all of my cards would have been way worse than losing the 40 quid or so that was in it (and would have been another 40 quid or so due to driving license, young person's railcard etc).

QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 17:35

I was really expecting to get flamed for crying over a £1.15 box of dressings. You've all been so lovely that I think I'm going to cry again.

Huffymuffy yours makes me feel doubly Sad as I keep imagining a desperate teenager with no money stealing it, like the ones who used to send jars of wee to Cathy and Claire from Jackie.

QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 18:09

I'm wanting to say screw teenagers BalloonSlayer. Most of the family planning clinics I could find were for under 18s only and while I was waiting for my free condoms I was witness to a conversation between nurses which went along the lines of someone couldn't get an implant put in in case an under 18 person came along and wanted one put in right that minute. It does seem that there's such a push for teenagers to get their contraception sorted right this second before they change their minds or can't be arsed to come back that it is having a knock on affect on everyone else.

OP posts:
QueenStromba · 08/03/2011 18:39

Meant to say that they were probably going to tell someone who had booked in to get an implant to bugger off because an under 18 person might turn up out of the blue and want one.

TotorosOcarina · 08/03/2011 18:43

Huffy I did that too!

I sneaked away from my mum on a shaopping trip carrying my very heavy daughter as I had no buggy wth me, bought a £15 test in superdrug - red faced from carrying a 1 year old and for having to buy a test - only to get back to the car and see the boox was ripped and empty! :(

I had to go back, I was so embrressed and worried they would think it was ME trying it on!
