I went in last week to change my address. Was told at the counter I needed to see a PB, and needed proof of new address. I didnt have it so I said Id come back. Since found out from friend at the bank that this is untrue.

Went in today, and queued for an age. Was told at the counter that only a PB could do it, they only had one at that branch and she couldnt do it.

The exact exchange was this:

Cashier calling to PB over her shoulder: Suze, can you do an address change?
Suze : No, I finish in 5 minutes
Cashier, to me : Sorry, shes finished. Can you come back another day?
Me : No sorry, I work usually and this is my day off. Cant someone else here do it?
Cashier : No
Me : Can I do it over the phone then?
Cashier : No
Me : What should I do then? I need to change it this week?
Cashier, with attitude: Come back another day... [blank face]

The "no" was always in a computer says... tone. And how long exactly does it take for Suze to change my address?

This has really annoyed me!!!

TSB Lloyds aren't much better, they sent a financial summary to my old house where they had opened it! It had all my details on it, investments, balance, etc and this was 8 years after I had changed my address! Was not happy.

For all those FIRST DIRECT fans my colleague has just been sent a booklet containing her entire banking history/banking life by First Direct. Included details of ALL her Direct Debits & amounts, analysis of what she spends and where, where she shops etc. How much goes in & how much goes out etc etc etc - the works.

It just turned up out of the blue, through the communal post slot where her post has been tampered with/gone missing before - colleague was horrified as I would have been. What were they thinking?

I know a couple of people who work in bank branches and trust me, if you think they're bad. You should hear some of the shit they have to put up with!

Yes I too have a dim view of Barclays from a recent experience...

We've had a joint account with them since 2006. Recently DH wrote a cheque for some building work which they bounced, in spite of having funds in the account. Pretty embarassing. It was returned, stamped "no mandate". Then they wrote to us (a week later) to say could we (not making it clear which one of us but it obviously must be DH) go into the branch with two forms of ID.

DH has written cheques before, albeit maybe not for a while. I write maybe two cheques a month (none of 'mine' have been bounced before or since). Basically it looks like they have lost the records of his signature. I just wish they would write a nice apologetic letter explaining what has happened and not "Go into the branch" as if we've done something wrong. Very poor.
